Top Kenley Jansen News

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches 11th save

Jansen walked two and struck out one over a scoreless and hitless inning to earn the save in Friday's 7-4 win over the Marlins.

After pitching four times in five days from May 16-20, Jansen had a couple of days off before the Angels' next save chance occurred. He made this one a little interesting, as he put two runners in scoring position, but he got Graham Pauley to pop out to end the threat. Jansen has given up just one run over his last 5.1 innings despite allowing at least one baserunner in all five appearances in that span. For the year, he's at a 4.96 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 16:5 K:BB over 16.1 innings while converting all 11 of his save chances, so his status as the Angels' closer isn't in danger.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Earns 10th save

Jansen allowed a run on two hits and struck out two over one inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Athletics.

Jansen gave up a run in a save situation for the first time this season, but he had a three-run cushion to work with. He's had a heavy workload of late, pitching four of the last five days, which may explain his struggles Tuesday. The 37-year-old is up to 10 saves while adding a 5.28 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 15:3 K:BB across 15.1 innings. Should a save situation arise Wednesday, Ryan Zeferjahn, Brock Burke or Hector Neris could be options to step in, as it's unlikely Jansen will be asked to pitch three days in a row.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down ninth save

Jansen allowed a hit and struck out one over a scoreless inning to earn the save in Monday's 4-3 win over the Athletics.

Jansen has kept runs off the board in his last three outings, spanning 3.1 innings. The veteran closer was able to picked up his ninth save of the season Monday, and his second save in three days, with a 16-pitch outing. He remains a perfect 9-for-9 in save chances while pitching to a 5.02 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 13:3 K:BB over 14.1 innings.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures four-out save

Jansen allowed a hit over 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save in Saturday's 11-9 win over the Dodgers. He did not strike out or walk a batter.

Jansen has covered 2.1 scoreless innings versus one of his old teams in this weekend's series. He got through this outing with 16 pitches (13 strikes) while earning his first save since May 3. It's been a bumpy month for the veteran closer, but he's taken care of business in save situations. On the year, he has a 5.40 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB over 13.1 innings, but he's been scored upon only in non-save situations while converting all eight of his save chances.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Gives up walk-off homer

Jansen (0-2) allowed two runs on a hit and a walk while failing to record an out, taking the loss Tuesday versus the Padres.

Jansen walked Elias Diaz and gave up a walk-off home run to Fernando Tatis in the ninth inning. This was not a save situation, as the game was tied when Jansen took the mound. Over five appearances in May, he's allowed eight runs across three innings while taking both of his losses on the year. Those two outings are the only ones in which he's been scored upon, but they have him at an unsightly 6.55 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 11:3 K:BB over 11 innings. He's still 7-for-7 in save chances, and he'll likely keep the closer role if he can avoid melting down in save situations.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Makes appearance in loss

Jansen allowed one hit in a scoreless two-thirds of an inning during Friday's 4-1 loss to the Orioles. He did not record a strikeout or a walk.

Jansen entered in the top of the ninth with the Angels facing a three-run deficit and got some work in after battling an illness earlier this week. This was his first appearance since May 3. With his ailment seemingly in the rearview mirror, Jansen should soon add to his total of 454 career saves (fourth all time).

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Fighting off illness

Jansen was unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Blue Jays due to an illness, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Jansen hasn't pitched since he collected his seventh save of the season Saturday. Manager Ron Washington said after Tuesday's game that the veteran reliever should be available out of the bullpen in Wednesday's contest, though that will ultimately depend on how the right-hander is feeling. Jansen owns a 5.79 ERA and 1.39 WHIP through 9.1 innings on the season, though all the runs scored against him came during a six-run barrage from the Tigers on Friday.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures save No. 7

Jansen retired the only two batters he faced in Saturday's win against the Tigers to earn his seventh save of the season.

The 37-year-old wasn't expected to be needed Saturday since the Angels entered the ninth inning leading 5-1, but Brock Burke was unable to finish things out and created a save situation. Jansen's previous appearance Thursday was a disaster as he gave up six runs on three homers in a non-save situation, but that's the only time in 10 outings this season he's been charged with a run. His 5.79 ERA and 1.39 WHIP are inflated due to that stumble, but Jansen has a 9:2 K:BB while converting all seven of his save chances this year.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Melts down in non-save spot

Jansen (0-1) took the loss Friday, surrendering six runs on six hits -- including three home runs -- in two-thirds of an inning as the Angels fell 9-1 to the Tigers. He struck out one.

Called upon in the ninth inning to keep the game level at 1-1, Jansen instead watched Riley Greene launch his third pitch into the right-field corner for a leadoff homer, followed quickly by another solo shot from Colt Keith and a two-run blast by Javier Baez. The veteran closer put two more runners aboard before getting the hook, and both of them came around to score with Jake Eder on the mound. Jansen still has yet to blow a save this season, going 6-for-6 in save chances, and he hadn't given up a run in eight appearances prior to Friday's disaster.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down sixth save

Jansen secured the save in Thursday's 4-3 win over Pittsburgh after allowing one hit in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out one.

Jansen poured in 14 of his 18 pitches for strikes, and he got Oneil Cruz to line out to end the game while the possible tying run was on first base. The 37-year-old right-hander has looked very sharp in the early going, giving up just five hits and two walks with eight punchouts while converting each of his six save chances over eight shutout innings to open the campaign. With Ben Joyce (shoulder) also on the injured list, Jansen is being relied upon even more for high-leverage work.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Notches fifth save

Jansen worked a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his fifth save of the season in a 2-0 win over the Giants. He didn't walk or strike out a batter.

Three flyball outs got the job done for Jansen, who has begun the season going 5-for-5 in converting save chances and has yet to give up a run in seven innings. While he could be a candidate to get flipped at the trade deadline if the Angels fall out of contention, that hasn't been a concern in the early going -- the Halos sit second in the AL West with a 10-9 record.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Grabs fourth save

Jansen earned the save in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Angels, allowing one hit while striking out one in a scoreless ninth inning.

Jansen worked around a one-out single to improve to 4-for-4 in save chances this year. It's been a nice start to the season for the 37-year-old closer -- Jansen has delivered six scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks while striking out seven in that span.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Escapes with save

Jansen allowed two hits in a scoreless inning during Tuesday's win against the Rays. He struck out two and earned a save.

Jansen recorded three straight outs to close up the 4-3 win after the Rays put runners on second and third to start the ninth inning. It was his third save of the year and first since March 30. Jansen tossed 15 of 20 pitches for strikes and generated five whiffs. He's thrown five straight scoreless innings to begin the 2025 season.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Secures second save

Jansen picked up the save in Sunday's 3-2 win against the White Sox, pitching a scoreless inning with no strikeouts while allowing a hit and a walk.

The 37-year-old collected his 449th career save, working around a double and a walk before inducing a game-ending double play. Despite debuting late in spring training March 1 due to lingering shoulder soreness, Jansen appears to be in classic form, as he now needs just 30 more saves to pass Lee Smith for third most all-time. Jansen is firmly planted in his role as the Angels' closer and could be a trade deadline target if the team fades out of contention.

  • Angels' Kenley Jansen: Locks down first save with Halos

Jansen walked one and struck out two in a scoreless ninth inning Saturday to record his first save of the season in a 1-0 win over the White Sox.

The veteran closer fired 11 of 19 pitches for strikes as he picked up his first save as an Angel. Jansen topped out at 94.9 mph with his cutter Saturday, but weak contact rather than elite velocity has always been his calling card. Jansen needs 30 more saves to tie Hall of Famer Lee Smith for third on the all-time list with 478, but it's a mark he hasn't reached in a season since 2022.
