With Andy Pages getting the day off and Tommy Edman filling in as the Dodgers' starting center fielder, Rojas will draw into the lineup for the ninth time in 17 games on the season, covering Edman's usual spot at the keystone. Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Fills in for Betts in opener
Rojas started at shortstop and went 1-for-4 with a base hit in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the Cubs in Tokyo.
Rojas is expected to fill a utility role this season, but he was included in the Opening Day lineup as a replacement for Mookie Betts (illness), who was sent back to the United States after struggling to bounce back from a bout with flu-like symptoms, which caused him to drop around 15 pounds. According to David Brandt of the Associated Press, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that he plans to have Rojas start at shortstop in both games in Tokyo, so expect the 36-year-old to remain in the lineup Wednesday. The Dodgers are anticipating that Betts will be ready to play in their domestic season opener March 27 versus the Tigers.

His ability to take part in live hitting and fielding work Wednesday backs up that assessment, though it's unclear whether Rojas will immediately play in Cactus League games when the Dodgers open their exhibition schedule Thursday. In any case, Rojas doesn't look to be in any danger of missing the Dodgers' season-opening series versus the Cubs in Tokyo, which begins March 18.

Dodgers' Miguel Rojas: Recovering from hernia surgery
Rojas said Saturday expects to be ready by Opening Day after undergoing hernia surgery during the offseason, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Rojas revealed that he developed an infection after the procedure, which delayed his offseason program by a few weeks. The 35-year-old infielder said that he is nearly at full health, and unless he suffers a setback, he should be ready for Opening Day. Rojas slashed .283/.337/.410 with eight stolen bases, six home runs and 36 RBI across 337 plate appearances during the 2024 regular season.

Rojas appeared in 103 regular-season games for the Dodgers in 2024 and slashed .283/.337/.410 with six home runs and 36 RBI across 337 plate appearances. Rojas suffered a torn adductor injury during the NLDS against the Padres, which will require surgery during the offseason, but he was able to play in Game 2 of the World Series against the Yankees, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout. It's unclear whether Rojas' procedure will have the 35-year-old shortstop sidelined for the start of spring training.
