  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Snaps RBI drought

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a run scored Monday against the Blue Jays.

Altuve doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth inning as part of a four-run rally in the frame. The hit also ended a six-game stretch during which Altuve failed to record an RBI and scored only one run. Despite that slow stretch, Alutive has managed 12 runs and nine RBI while hitting .303 across 22 games.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Breaks up no-hit bid with solo shot

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, a stolen base and an additional run scored in Monday's 4-3 loss to Seattle.

Altuve played the role of spoiler Monday, breaking up Mariners right-hander Logan Gilbert's no-hit bid with a solo homer in the sixth inning. The star infielder-turned-outfielder is off to a sizzling start at the dish in 2025, batting .357 with three long balls and five RBI to go with nine runs scored and two stolen bases over 10 outings.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Swats second homer

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 6-1 loss to the Twins.

The 34-year-old hooked a Bailey Ober slider down the left-field line for his 41st career leadoff homer, which is 12th on the all-time list and third among active players behind George Springer (60), Mookie Betts (52) and Kyle Schwarber (46). The shift to left field defensively this season hasn't impacted Altuve at the plate, and through eight games he's batting .364 (12-for-33) with two homers.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Pops first homer

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Tuesday against the Giants.

Altuve has primarily made headlines for his defensive alignment early this season, and he's now started four of five games in left field. He's also performed well at the plate, beginning the campaign with a five-game hitting streak. On Tuesday, he delivered his first home run and extra-base hit of the year and is now 7-for-18.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Draws first start at second base

Altuve is starting at second base and batting leadoff in Monday's contest against the Giants.

Altuve manned his new left field position in all three games of the Astros' opening series against the Mets, but he's back at his old spot for the series opener versus the Giants. He remains the team's primary left fielder, but Altuve will still play second base on occasion, and doing so Monday with flyball pitcher Ronel Blanco on the mound for Houston makes sense. Mauricio Dubon is handling left field.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Confirmed as primary left fielder

Astros manager Joe Espada confirmed Wednesday that Altuve will play "most of his games" in left field this season, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Espada noted that it's possible personnel changes down the road alter this line of thinking, but for now the plan is to go into the season with Altuve as the club's everyday left fielder. It's no surprise, as Altuve has been focusing on left field since the beginning of camp and has played the position adequately enough that the team feels comfortable with him there. Mauricio Dubon is the favorite to open the season at Altuve's old second base position.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Manager pleased with work in LF

Astros manager Joe Espada said Thursday that Altuve has done "enough for me to feel good about playing (him in) left field," Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Altuve had a misplay at the left-field wall during Thursday's game against the Cardinals, but Espada appears to be pleased with how the 34-year-old has looked as he attempts to convert from second baseman to left fielder. Espada has not yet officially said that Altuve will be the team's primary left fielder this season, but that announcement seems inevitable.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Plan 'right now' is to play LF

Astros manager Joe Espada said Monday that the plan "right now" is for Altuve to be the team's primary left fielder Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.

It's not a surprise, given that Altuve seems to be working out almost exclusively in left field this spring. However, Espada stressed that nothing has been decided yet, as he's still evaluating how Altuve looks in the outfield and he also wants to get feedback from the player. Espada noted that he wants to avoid moving Altuve back-and-forth between left field and second base, so if the team commits to making the 34-year-old a left fielder, that's where the overwhelming majority of his reps will come.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Starting in left field Friday

Altuve will make his Grapefruit League debut in left field Friday versus the Cardinals, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Altuve has never played left field in professional ball, but he's been working out at the position this spring, and it appears to be the spot he's most likely to man on a regular basis for the Astros in 2025. The 34-year-old slashed .295/.350/.439 with 20 home runs and 22 stolen bases across 153 contests for the Astros during the 2024 regular season.

  • Astros' Jose Altuve: Spring debut in LF this week

Astros manager Joe Espada said Tuesday that Altuve will make his Grapefruit League debut in left field later this week, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Altuve's workouts so far in camp have focused on left field, and that's the position he'll man in his first game this spring. As long as he proves to be adequate defensively, it seems as though Houston plans to play him there often, if not on a full-time basis. Altuve has never played the outfield either at the major- or minor-league level.
