Mets' Frankie Montas: Two-year, $34M deal with Mets
The Mets signed Montas to a two-year, $34 million contract Sunday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
The deal includes an opt out after the 2025 season. Montas held a 4.80 ERA over 30 regular-season starts between the Reds and Brewers in 2024, although he was much better after being sent to Milwaukee in a trade with a 70:25 K:BB across 57.1 innings. The right-hander will turn 32 in March and will fill one of multiple openings in the Mets' rotation.

Frankie Montas: Declines mutual option
Montas declined his portion of a $20 million mutual option for 2025, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
He'll receive a $2 million buyout instead. Montas, who will turn 32 in March, posted a 4.84 ERA and 148:66 K:BB across 150.2 frames covering 30 regular-season starts between the Reds and Brewers in 2024 and allowed three runs (one earned) over 3.2 innings in a postseason start for Milwaukee. Brewers' Frankie Montas: Punches out six in no-decision
Montas did not factor into the decision in Friday's 8-4 win against the Mets, pitching four innings while allowing two runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out six.
The veteran right-hander was pulled after 82 pitches as Milwaukee looks to keep its starting rotation fresh for the playoffs. The Mets managed to score both their runs in the fourth inning via a two-run homer by Mark Vientos. This marks the third time Montas has not managed to reach the fifth frame since joining the Brewers on July 30 while making 11 starts with his new club. Overall, the 31-year-old owns a 4.55 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 70:25 K:BB across 57.1 innings with Milwaukee.

Brewers' Frankie Montas: Tagged for seven earned runs
Montas surrendered eight runs (seven earned) on six hits and two walks over 2.2 innings during Sunday's win against the Diamondbacks. He struck out four and did not factor in the decision.
The right-hander was tagged for more than four runs in a start for the first time since being acquired by the Brewers, and half of the Diamondbacks' damage against him came via three long balls. Montas has served up five homers in his past two outings, but Milwaukee rallied Sunday to save him from a second straight loss. The 31-year-old has a 4.56 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 64:22 K:BB across 53.1 innings through 10 starts with the Brewers, and his final outing of the regular season lines up for this weekend versus the Mets.

Brewers' Frankie Montas: Fans 10 in losing effort
Montas (7-11) took the loss Tuesday as the Brewers were downed 5-1 by the Phillies, giving up three runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out 10.
All the runs came on homers, as Nick Castellanos launched a solo shot in the second inning before Bryce Harper helped chase Montas from the game with a two-run shot in the sixth. It was the first time since the right-hander joined Milwaukee at the trade deadline that he'd served up multiple long balls, but on the bright side he's struck out double-digit batters twice in his last three outings. Over nine starts for the Brewers, Montas sports a 3.55 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 60:20 K:BB in 50.2 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start at home this weekend against the Diamondbacks, but with the Brewers on the verge of clinching the NL Central title, the team could shuffle its rotation over the final days of the regular season to set up its postseason rotation and give pitchers like Montas some extra rest.
