Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Shut down following injection
O'Neill received an injection in his left shoulder Saturday and will pause all activity for about a week, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
O'Neill was pulled off his rehab assignment this week after reporting renewed soreness in his shoulder, which has kept him on the injured list since mid-May. The veteran outfielder appeared close to making his return to the Orioles, but it's now unclear how much longer he's expected to be sidelined. His status should be updated at the end of the rest period.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Renewed shoulder soreness on rehab
O'Neill is sitting out a second straight rehab game during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday due to renewed left shoulder soreness, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.comreports.
O'Neill went 4-for-10 at the plate in his first three rehab contests, starting at designated hitter in the first game and in right field for the next two. However, the left shoulder impingement that sent him to the 10-day injured list nearly a month ago is evidently still giving him problems. O'Neill is expected to receive "a few days rest," per Kubatko, so the Orioles seem to think he's not dealing with a significant setback. However, O'Neill no longer looks to be a candidate to be activated from the injured list for this weekend's series versus the Angels.

O'Neill (shoulder) is likely to begin a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Norfolk this weekend, MLB.com reports.
O'Neill is with the Orioles in Seattle for their current series against the Mariners, and he's almost ready to take the final step in his recovery from a left shoulder impingement. Barring any setbacks, the veteran slugger should be able to rejoin Baltimore's outfield at some point during the middle of June. Despite slashing just .188/.280/.325 with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI across 93 plate appearances, O'Neill figures to play just about every day either as a corner outfielder or designated hitter once he's activated from the injured list.

Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said Wednesday that he's hopeful O'Neill (neck) will be available to return from the 10-day injured list for Baltimore's weekend series against Minnesota, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.

Orioles' Tyler O'Neill: Could avoid rehab assignment
O'Neill (neck) may not need a minor-league rehab assignment before being reinstated from the 10-day injured list, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
General manager Mike Elias said Friday that O'Neill's return timeline from neck soreness is closer to "days" and not "weeks," so the outfielder seems to have a chance to be activated as soon as Sunday, when he's first eligible. While O'Neill is slashing only .215/.284/.385 with two home runs, three doubles and 10 RBI over 75 plate appearances this year, his elite 17.4 percent barrel rate suggests he's been a bit unlucky in the slugging department. Until O'Neill is cleared to return, Ramon Laureano should continue to play nearly every day in Baltimore's outfield.
