Suarez earned the save in Wednesday's 4-2 win over the Cubs, not allowing a baserunner in a scoreless ninth inning while not recording a strikeout. Suarez continued his excellent start to the season in Wednesday's win, securing his league-leading eighth save. The 34-year-old Suarez has yet to allow a run through nine innings while pitching to a stellar 0.56 WHIP with 10:2 K:BB.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Secures seventh save Saturday

Suarez earned a save against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing two hits and striking out two batters over one scoreless inning. Suarez entered with a 2-0 lead in the ninth inning and found himself in trouble when two of the first three batters he faced reached base. However, the right-hander was able to get out of trouble by striking out Ryan McMahon and getting Kris Bryant to fly out to right field. Suarez leads the league with seven saves and has yet to give up a run through seven innings this season.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Picks up sixth save

Suarez earned the save in Wednesday's 2-1 win over the Athletics, working around a walk in a scoreless ninth inning. Suarez issued a leadoff walk to Tyler Soderstrom, though he'd need just two more pitches to close out the win, inducing a double play off the bat of Shea Langeliers before retiring JJ Bleday on his subsequent offering. Suarez now leads the majors with six saves -- he's yet to allow a run or a hit through his first six innings.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Picks up another save

Suarez earned a save against the Athletics on Monday, striking out one batter in a perfect inning of work. Suarez successfully protected a one-run, ninth-inning lead, needing just nine pitches to retire three batters. The right-hander had a rough spring, but he's been lights-out in the regular season, tossing five scoreless and hitless frames while posting a 7:1 K:BB. Suarez has gotten a save in each of his five outings to date, and he's tied with Luke Jackson for the MLB lead in saves in the early part of the season.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Secures save No. 3

Suarez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning to record his third save of the year in Wednesday's 5-2 win against the Guardians. Suarez's start to the regular season has made his disastrous spring training feel like a distant memory. He's now converted all three of his save opportunities while striking out four batters and allowing just one man to reach base via a walk. The 34-year-old remains one of the most reliable relievers in the game and doesn't appear to be at risk of losing his hold on the Padres' closer job.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Notches second save

Suarez struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his second save of the season in a 4-3 win over Atlanta. The 34-year-old right-hander has wiped the slate clean after a bumpy spring training, picking up saves in each of the Padres' first two games without allowing a run or a hit. Suarez finished fourth in the majors last season with 36 saves in a breakout campaign, and he appears to be on track to be among the league leaders again in 2025.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Closes out White Sox

Suarez earned the save Sunday against the White Sox, allowing one hit and striking out two during a scoreless ninth inning. Suarez allowed just a two-out single before striking out Gavin Sheets to end the game. Sunday was just his second outing with multiple strikeouts since Aug. 10, and he's converted just three of his past six save chances and has given up seven runs in that span. Suarez has still been elite in his first season as a closer overall, as he owns a 2.71 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 58:15 K:BB in 63 innings while racking up 34 saves.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Bounces back for 33rd save

Suarez pitched a perfect inning to earn the save in Monday's 3-1 win over the Astros. Suarez took a blown save by allowing a game-tying home run Sunday versus the Giants, but he was able to bounce back just a day later. He needed just eight pitches to retire the side in the ninth inning of Monday's win. Suarez is up to 33 saves in 38 chances this year while maintaining a 2.55 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 54:14 K:BB across 60 innings. While two of his blown saves have come over his last four outings, he remains firmly in the closer role.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Implodes Thursday for blown save

Suarez (8-3) took the loss and blew a save against the Tigers on Thursday, allowing four runs on two hits and two walks while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning. Suarez entered Thursday having successfully converted eight straight save chances, but he didn't have his best stuff against Detroit. The right-hander had a three-run lead to work with in the top of the ninth and found himself in quick trouble, giving up a leadoff single followed by a walk. Suarez retired Spencer Torkelson on a popup but then issued another walk to load the bases. It looked like the closer might get out of the jam when he fanned Kerry Carpenter for the second out, but Parker Meadows followed with a grand slam on a 3-2 fastball to push the Tigers into the lead. Suarez has been great this year with 31 saves in 35 opportunities, but he has faded a bit lately, posting a 6.23 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over his last 13 innings while giving up at least one earned run in six of 14 appearances since Aug. 3. If San Diego were to consider moving Suarez out of the closer role, Tanner Scott -- who has 20 saves (mostly with Miami) and a 1.44 ERA on the campaign -- would be a very capable fill-in.

Suarez (8-1) got the win Sunday over the Mets after striking out one during a clean ninth inning appearance. He's now picked up six saves and two wins in nine appearances in August and is one save away from becoming the fourth pitcher to reach 30 saves this season. Suarez is enjoying a spectacular season, pitching to a 1.75 ERA, 0.88 WHIP and 49:10 K:BB in 51.1 innings.

Suarez earned a save against the Twins on Monday, allowing one run on one hit and one walk over one inning. Suarez wasn't exactly sharp in the outing, but he had a three-run lead to work with and performed well enough to pick up the save. The right-hander threw just 12 of 22 pitches for strikes and allowed a run for the third time over his past five appearances, though he's gone 4-for-4 on save opportunities during that span. Despite the moderately bumpy stretch, Suarez still has an outstanding 1.82 ERA and 0.91 WHIP on the season, and he ranks fifth in the majors with 28 saves.

  • Padres' Robert Suarez: Picks up win No. 6

Suarez (6-1) got the win Tuesday against the Dodgers after striking out two in a scoreless 10th inning. Suarez was called upon to pitch the 10th after the Padres rallied for two runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to extras. He made the job look easy, striking out the first two batters before getting Andy Pages to fly out on the first pitch he saw for a quick 10-pitch inning. The Padres would go on to walk it off in the bottom half of the frame and Suarez was credited with his second win in as many appearances. Suarez is now working on a scoreless streak of seven innings and has struck out multiple hitters in three straight appearances. The Padres traded for lefty reliever Tanner Scott, who is having an excellent season with a 1.18 ERA and 18 saves, but Suarez remains the favorite for closing duties unless his performance starts to slip over the second half of the year.

Suarez has been dominant in the closer role with a 0.64 ERA, 0.67 WHIP and 27:6 K:BB over 28.1 innings while converting all 17 of his save chances and adding one hold.

After yielding a two-RBI single to Freddy Fermin, the San Diego closer induced a Nelson Velazquez flyout to secure the win. Suarez is now tied with Emmanuel Clase for second in the majors with 17 saves, trailing Ryan Helsley by one. The 33-year-old righty has been brilliant as the Padres closer this year, firing a 0.72 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 24:5 K:BB over 25 innings.
