  • Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: In late-game mix

Morillo is expected to pitch in high-leverage situations after Shelby Miller (forearm) was placed on the 15-day injured list, Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports reports.

Miller had taken over the closer role following season-ending injuries to A.J. Puk (elbow) and Justin Martinez (elbow). Miller's injury leaves manager Torey Lovullo scrambling to fill out the late-game crew. Kevin Ginkel saved Monday's game after Morillo finished out the eighth inning. Morillo, fellow rookie Kyle Backhus and Jalen Beeks are expected to be part of the mix. The 26-year-old Morillo is 29 games into his MLB career and has a 3.91 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 26 strikeouts and 15 walks over 25.1 innings.

  • Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Back in big leagues

Morillo was recalled from Triple-A Reno prior to Monday's game against the Padres.

Morillo is taking the roster spot of Shelby Miller, who was placed on the 15-day injured list due to a right forearm strain. Morillo has found success at the big-league level in 2025 and had posted a solid 0.96 ERA with nine strikeouts in his previous 12 appearances (9.1 innings) prior to being demoted to Triple-A on Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Morillo to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old's move to the minors will clear a spot on the active roster for Jake Woodford, who signed with the D-backs on Wednesday. Morillo has posted a 4.01 ERA and 1.54 WHIP across 24.2 innings in the majors this year, and he could return to Arizona later in the season when the Diamondbacks need a fresh bullpen arm.

  • Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Expected to be optioned

The Diamondbacks are expected to option Morillo to Triple-A Reno on Wednesday, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Morillo has made 28 relief appearances for the Diamondbacks this season, posting a 4.01 ERA and 25:13 K:BB across 24.2 frames. He'll be replaced on the roster by Jake Woodford, who will offer the Arizona bullpen more length.

  • Diamondbacks' Juan Morillo: Added to big-league bullpen

The Diamondbacks selected Morillo's contract from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.

Morillo has allowed one run in 6.1 innings to begin the season at Triple-A, and he'll now be called upon to provide the team with relief depth while Joe Mantiply and Bryce Jarvis head to the minors to correct their early struggles. The 26-year-old Morillo will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.
