Mariners' Troy Taylor: Suffers lat strain
Taylor will not be ready for the start of spring training after suffering a right lat strain last week during his offseason throwing program, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
Given the nature of the injury and how recent it was, it's possible Taylor's readiness for Opening Day is in question. However, more should be known about a potential timetable deeper into spring training. Taylor looked good in 21 appearances out of the Mariners' bullpen in 2024, posting a 3.72 ERA and 25:7 K:BB over 19.1 innings.

Mariners' Troy Taylor: Secures first save
Taylor allowed a hit and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Friday's 2-0 win over the Athletics.
It hasn't taken Taylor long to work his way into a high-leverage role. While he's been shaky at times, allowing five runs over his last nine innings, he has a save and six holds in that span. For the season, Taylor has a 2.95 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 23:7 K:BB across 18.1 innings in the majors. He collected 21 saves in 40 appearances between High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas prior to his promotion to the majors this year, so it's possible the Mariners view him as a future closing option.

Mariners' Troy Taylor: Grabs first career hold
Taylor recorded his first career hold in a win over the Athletics on Thursday, firing a perfect sixth inning.
The rookie needed just seven pitches, five which he landed for strikes, to get through his one frame following an effective five-inning outing from starter Bryan Woo. Taylor, who rocketed up the organizational ranks following his debut at Single-A Modesto to start last season, has had no trouble acclimating to the big leagues. He carries an 0.87 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 10.5 K/9 across his first 10.1 innings in the majors.

Mariners' Troy Taylor: Impressive in big-league debut
Taylor fired a scoreless ninth inning in a win over the Mets on Sunday, allowing a walk and recording two strikeouts.
The precocious rookie was impressive in his big-league debut, which came after a promotion straight from Double-A Arkansas. Taylor wrapped up his first frame in the majors in signature fashion, recording swinging strikeouts of Luis Torrens and Tyrone Taylor to close out Seattle's 11-run victory. Taylor's above-average ability to miss bats earned him plenty of high-leverage work at Arkansas thus far this minor-league season, but his initial assignments in the majors will likely continue to be of the low-leverage variety.

Mariners' Troy Taylor: Selected to majors
The Mariners selected Taylor's contract from Double-A Arkansas on Saturday, Shannon Drayer of SeattleSports.com reports.
After posting a spectacular 1.27 ERA and 0.84 WHIP through 42.2 innings between High-A Everett and Double-A Arkansas, Taylor will skip past Triple-A and move directly into the Mariners' bullpen. The 22-year-old right-hander will likely be used in middle relief while with Seattle, and he'll be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game. Eduard Bazardo was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.
