Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Back from injured list
The Cardinals reinstated Winn (back) from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
The 23-year-old landed on the shelf April 12 due to back spasms, but he's ready to rejoin the Cardinals after a minimum-length stay on the injured list. Winn had a slow start to the campaign with a .603 OPS through 13 contests, though he found his power stroke during a three-game rehab assignment with two homers.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Homers twice in rehab game
Winn (back) cranked a pair of solo home runs in his second rehab game with Triple-A Memphis on Saturday.
After starting at shortstop in his first rehab game Friday and striking out in all three plate appearances, Winn was in the designated hitter spot Saturday and went deep twice. Recovering from lower-back spasms, Winn remains on track to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Cleared for rehab assignment
Winn (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn has ramped up his baseball activities this week and is ready to test things out in a game setting. Barring a setback, he is on pace to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday. Winn has missed nearly a week of action with lower-back spasms.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: On pace for activation Tuesday
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Wednesday that Winn (back) is "on pace" to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Tuesday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Winn has begun hitting in the batting cage and playing catch as he ramps up his baseball activities. He will remain in St. Louis this weekend to continue rehabbing while the Cardinals head out on a road trip. The Cardinals begin a series in Atlanta on Monday and Winn could be activated ahead of the second game of that series Tuesday.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Begins baseball activities
Winn (back) played catch Tuesday, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn was cleared to begin baseball activities four days after landing on the 10-day injured list with lower-back spasms. A target date for his return should become available as he continues to ramp things up. Brendan Donovan and Thomas Saggese have been handling shortstop for the Cardinals with Winn out.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Lands on injured list
The Cardinals placed Winn on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to lower-back spasms, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn believed he wouldn't need to spend time on the IL after exiting Friday's game early because of his back, but evidently, the Cardinals' front office disagreed. If his injury truly is minor, he should have a good chance to be activated when eligible April 22. Until then, Thomas Saggese will start regularly at shortstop. Winn's move to the injured list opens a roster spot for Nolan Gorman (hamstring), who was activated from the IL in a corresponding move.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Expects to miss some games
Winn left Friday's game against the Phillies due to back spasms and said afterward that he will likely sit out a couple of games, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Winn was insistent that he won't need to spend time on the injured list, but he will need a few days off to give his back time to recover from an issue that has been bothering him for a few weeks. Whether the Cardinals' front office cooperates with the 23-year-old's request to stay off the IL remains to be seen, but either way, it seems like Thomas Saggese will be picking up a few more starts at shortstop.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Battling back spasms
Winn was removed from Friday's game against the Phillies due to lower-back spasms, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn didn't log a plate appearance Friday before getting pulled at the start of the second inning. The severity of his injury remains unknown, but he can be considered day-to-day for the time being.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Heating up
Winn has notched four straight multi-hit games after going hitless in his first five contests of the season.
Winn is still looking for his first extra-base hit of the season, but he's gone 8-for-15 with five runs scored across his last four tilts. The 23-year-old has remained at the bottom of the Cardinals' batting order, which hurts his counting stats outlooks, but he could inch his way back up the batting order if he stays hot.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Harder contact after swing tweak
Winn went 0-for-5 with two strikeouts in Monday's loss to the Angels but had a game-high three hard-hit balls.
During a rain delay in Sunday's game against the Twins, Winn compared video from 2024 to 2025 and worked on his swing with hitting coaches Brant Brown and Brandon Allen, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. They noticed in the 2025 video that his hips were leaning back before his swing, which led to lazy flyballs. Winn stood more upright during batting practice Monday and worked on driving through the ball. While he wasn't rewarded during Monday's game, Winn was heartened by the hard contact he made and is confident "everything is going to click" for him soon. The 23-year-old is 0-for-14 with seven strikeouts in his first four contests this season.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Still batting ninth against lefty
Winn is hitting ninth again for the Cardinals on Monday versus Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson.
Winn was in the nine spot for all three games against the Twins' righties in the opening series, and he will remain there Monday even as the Halos send a southpaw to the hill. The shortstop was just 4-for-50 at the plate during spring training and is still looking for his first hit of the regular season. The left-handed hitting Lars Nootbaar is again occupying the leadoff spot Monday.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Slated to bat ninth Opening Day
Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that he is planning to bat Winn ninth Opening Day versus Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Winn didn't hit anywhere other than leadoff during Grapefruit League games, but he is in the No. 9 spot for Monday's exhibition contest versus Triple-A Memphis in what Marmol indicated is a preview of his Opening Day lineup. The young shortstop went just 4-for-50 in Grapefruit League play and will begin the season at the bottom of the batting order, at least against righties. Winn could move back to the top of the lineup versus lefties. Lars Nootbaar is in the leadoff spot for Monday's exhibition.

Cardinals' Masyn Winn: Back in action Friday
Winn (wrist) is starting at shortstop and batting leadoff in Friday's split-squad game against the Astros, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Winn has been sidelined the past few days due to wrist soreness, but he'll return to the lineup Friday on his 23rd birthday. He has a .098/.156/.098 slash line through 45 plate appearances in spring training but is expected to begin the campaign as St. Louis' leadoff man after posting a .730 OPS as a rookie last year.
