  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Suffers seventh loss

Pepiot (6-7) took the loss Sunday at Boston, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk over six innings with three strikeouts. Despite being stuck with the loss, Pepiot managed to notch his third consecutive quality start, pushing his season total to 13. The 27-year-old certainly did not have his sharpest stuff, as he managed to generate a subpar six whiffs out of his 88 total pitches. This performance also snapped a nine-start streak over which Pepiot had conceded five or fewer hits and pitched to a 2.60 ERA in 52 innings. Following this effort, the Tampa Bay right-hander enters the All-Star break with a 3.38 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 110:37 K:BB across 114.1 total frames.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Six strong innings

Pepiot allowed two earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out six across six innings Tuesday against the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision. Pepiot didn't allow a hit until the fourth inning when Spencer Torkelson took him yard for a solo home run. He otherwise turned in a strong start, generating 15 swinging strikes on 93 total pitches. Across seven starts since the beginning of June, Pepiot has posted a 3.52 ERA and 1.12 WHIP while allowing two or earned runs or fewer on five occasions.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Records just five outs

Pepiot didn't factor into Friday's decision against the Orioles, allowing four runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter across 1.2 innings. Pepiot induced three groundball outs in the first frame and was gifted a six-run lead by the Rays heading into the second. However, Pepiot ended up yielding a two-run double and two-run single. He was lifted after giving up another single and finished his outing with just five outs recorded, tossing 48 pitches (30 strikes). It was the first time in his major-league career that he failed to make it out of the second inning. Pepiot will look to bounce back in his next start, which is lined up for next week at home against the Athletics.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Turns in masterpiece for win

Pepiot (4-6) worked eight innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks while striking out 11 during Monday's 7-1 win against the Orioles. Pepiot turned in his best start of the season, working a season-high eight innings and striking out a season-high 11, to continue a big streak of 11 straight starts allowing three runs or fewer. The right-hander has had his best stuff lately as over the last three starts and 19.2 innings, the 27-year-old has struck out 28 batters. He'll get a stiff test in his next start as he is scheduled to face the MLB-leading Tigers.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Gives up two homers in no-decision

Pepiot allowed two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings in a no-decision versus the Rangers on Thursday. Pepiot delivered another quality start but was unable to extend his streak of scoreless outings to three. He surrendered solo home runs to Jake Burger and Marcus Semien in this contest, but he was spared the loss when the Rays rallied for a walk-off win in the ninth inning. Pepiot has logged six straight quality starts, allowing nine runs over his last 37.2 innings. He's at a 3.20 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 64:22 K:BB across 76 innings through 13 starts this season. His next outing is projected to be a road start in Boston.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Blanks Houston in no-decision

Pepiot came away with a no-decision Friday, scattering two hits and a walk over 6.2 scoreless innings in a 2-1 loss to the Astros. He struck out four. The right-hander faced the minimum number of batters through four innings and didn't let a runner get into scoring position while he was on the mound, exiting with a 1-0 lead after 93 pitches (61 strikes). The Tampa Bay bullpen cost Pepiot his fourth win of the season, however, and he had to settle for his fifth straight quality start and eighth of the season. He'll take a 3.21 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 56:20 K:BB through 70 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come at home next week against the Rangers.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Six strong innings in no-decision

Pepiot didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Phillies after allowing one run on two hits and two walks in six innings. He struck out three. While Pepiot did fail to fan more than three in his third straight start, that didn't stop him from holding the Phillies in check. The right-hander gave up a season-low two hits, and he also threw six innings while conceding one run or less for the third time in eight starts this season. Pepiot has just seven punchouts over his past three outings, but he's yielded just four runs and hasn't surrendered a single long ball during this stretch. He'll take a steady 3.86 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 38:16 K:BB across 44.1 innings into his next scheduled appearance against the Blue Jays, who have a weak .646 OPS against right-handed pitching through 36 games.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Tagged for two runs in loss

Pepiot (2-4) took the loss against the Yankees on Friday, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out one batter over 4.1 innings. Pepiot allowed at least one baserunner in each of the first four innings, but was able to maneuver out of trouble without allowing a run. He was lifted in the fifth inning after giving up a walk and a double, and Pepiot was tagged for two runs after Paul Goldschmidt belted a three-run home run off Mason Montgomery. Pepiot generated just 10 first-pitch strikes and five whiffs on 88 pitches (55 strikes) and wasn't able to complete five innings for the first time in seven starts. He's in line to face the Phillies at home next week.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Secures second win

Pepiot (2-3) earned the win Saturday against the Padres after giving up one run on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out three. Pepiot delivered a second straight quality start Saturday and broke a streak of three consecutive outings with multiple homers allowed. He needed just 75 pitches to record 18 outs, but manager Kevin Cash elected to go to the bullpen after San Diego broke his shutout bid with a run on two hits in the sixth inning. Pepiot will carry a 4.24 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 34:12 K:BB over 34 innings into his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend on the road against the Yankees.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Quality start versus Yankees

Pepiot (1-3) was tagged with a loss after he pitched six innings, giving up three runs on six hits and a walk while striking out seven batters in Sunday's 4-0 defeat to the Yankees. Pepiot bounced back well after surrendering six runs over six innings in his last start Tuesday against the Red Sox. One of the right-hander's biggest problems this season has been the long ball, and he surrendered two more Sunday. Trent Grisham launched a solo shot in the first inning before Cody Bellinger went deep with a solo homer of his own in the top of the sixth. Pepiot has now given up eight home runs over his first five starts of the season. He'll carry a 4.82 ERA and 1.50 WHIP into his next projected start Saturday in San Diego.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Peppered for six runs

Pepiot (1-2) took the loss against the Red Sox on Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks while striking out eight in six innings. Pepiot was able to register eight punchouts for the second time this season, thanks in large part to the 17 whiffs he generated on 102 pitches (of which 70 were strikes). However, he still had issues with his command and gave up a season-high nine hits, with two of the six runs yielded coming on solo homers from Jarren Duran and Alex Bregman in the second and third innings, respectively. Pepiot has started the season with a 4.91 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB across 22 innings. He'll look to get back into the win column in his next start, tentatively slated for this weekend at home against Aaron Judge and the Yankees.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Grabs first win of 2025

Pepiot (1-1) earned the win against the Angels on Wednesday. He gave up three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five across five innings. All three of the runs Pepiot gave up came on solo home runs, but he got enough help from the Rays' offense (mostly from Jose Caballero's grand slam in the first inning) to earn his first win of the 2025 season. Pepiot generated 16 first-pitch strikes and 15 whiffs on 91 pitches, and through three starts he's posted a 3.38 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 16:7 K:BB across 16 innings. He'll look to make it two wins in a row in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next week at home against Boston.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Strikes out eight in no decision

Pepiot didn't factor into the decision in Friday's Opening Day win versus the Rockies. He allowed two runs (one earned) on six hits and one walk while striking out eight over six innings. With Shane McClanahan (triceps) on the shelf, it was Pepiot who helped launch a new chapter in Rays history with their opener at George M. Steinbrenner Field, the Yankees' spring training facility that will be the Rays' home for 2025. Pepiot looked overpowering at times but was wild in the fourth inning. After hitting Michael Toglia with an errant curveball, the righty threw a wild pitch that advanced Toglia another 90 feet. He would eventually cross home plate on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Farmer. However, Tampa's offense came to life late and kept Pepiot out of the loss column. He is tentatively slated to face the Pirates his next time out.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Pulled after 63 pitches in finale

Pepiot (8-8) took the loss Sunday against Boston, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out five in four innings. Pepiot ran into trouble in the third inning when an RBI double by Vaughn Grissom drove in the game's first run. An unfortunate throwing error by the Rays defense compounded the damage, allowing another run to score. Pepiot wasn't given much of a chance to recover, as he was pulled after throwing just 63 pitches in the regular-season finale. Acquired from the Dodgers in the Tyler Glasnow trade last winter, the 27-year-old Pepiot enjoyed a successful inaugural season for the Rays, pitching to a 3.60 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 142:48 K:BB in 130 innings (26 starts).

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Goes six frames in loss

Pepiot (7-6) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out six batters in six innings in a loss to Seattle on Monday. Pepiot was given an early one-run lead but allowed five runs across the second through fourth frames and didn't get any additional support from Tampa Bay's offense. The right-hander was particularly impacted by the long ball, as the two homers he served up accounted for four of the Mariners' five runs. Though he wasn't great in the outing, Pepiot did get credit for a quality start, as only two of the runs he surrendered were earned. Since returning from an over-one-month stay on the injured list Aug. 16, Pepiot has given up nine runs across 17.1 frames, but just four of the runs have been earned. He's also posted a solid 16:3 K:BB during that span.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Activated ahead of Friday's start

The Rays activated Pepiot (knee) from the 15-day injured list Friday, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Pepiot will start Friday's game against the Diamondbacks after being on the sidelines for the past month due to an infection in his right knee. The right-hander made one rehab start with Double-A Montgomery, throwing 69 pitches while striking out seven over 3.1 scoreless innings. Pepiot figures to be limited to around 80 pitches in Friday's outing.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Racks up seven Ks in rehab start

Pepiot (knee) struck out seven batters over 3.1 scoreless innings while scattering one hit and two walks in his rehab start Saturday with Double-A Montgomery. Pepiot tossed 69 pitches in the rehab outing, which should be the only minor-league start he needs before making his return from the 15-day injured list. The Rays have seemingly already reopened a spot in the rotation for Pepiot, as the club optioned Tyler Alexander -- who had been functioning as the de facto No. 5 starter -- to Triple-A Durham on Sunday. Pepiot rejoined the Rays on Sunday and played catch at Tropicana Field, and he'll likely throw a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday before Tampa Bay locks him in for a start this weekend versus the Diamondbacks.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Slated for rehab start Saturday

Pepiot (knee) is scheduled to make a rehab start Saturday with Double-A Montgomery, MLB.com reports. Pepiot has been on the shelf since July 21 with an infection in his right knee that had stemmed from a spider bite, but after the swelling in his knee subsided, he was able to complete a bullpen session before tossing a three-inning simulated game earlier this week. The right-hander looked to be a candidate to return from the injured list to take the mound Saturday against the Orioles, but the Rays will instead have him report to Montgomery for what's expected to be a one-start rehab assignment. Manager Kevin Cash said Pepiot is likely to throw 65-to-75 pitches in Saturday's rehab outing.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Sim game coming

Pepiot (knee) is scheduled to throw a three-inning simulated game as the next step in his recovery, MLB.com reports. The Rays didn't give an exact date for when Pepiot will throw the sim game, though he's had two and three days of rest between his most recent bullpen sessions. After his next session, the club will decide whether Pepiot is ready to be activated or if he will require a rehab assignment.

  • Rays' Ryan Pepiot: Knee infection due to bug bite

Pepiot told reporters Saturday that he spent 60 hours in the hospital to treat an infection in his right knee due to a bug bite, Ryan Bass of Bally Sports Sun reports. Pepiot was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to a right knee infection, though the details of that injury didn't surface until Saturday. He told reporters that the bug bite caused his knee to swell up "like the size of a softball... I couldn't put any weight on my leg." Pepiot is slated to throw up to 25 pitches off the mound Saturday, and how his knee reacts after the session will determine whether the 26-year-old right-hander will need to go on a rehab assignment. Pepiot holds a 6-5 record over his 17 starts this season with a 3.92 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 94:31 K:BB across 87.1 innings.
