Reds' Alexis Diaz: Up to 28 saves
Diaz earned the save in Tuesday's 6-5 win over Atlanta, allowing one hit while striking out two in a scoreless ninth inning.
Atlanta made things interesting in the ninth with a two-out single followed by a stolen base. However, Diaz proceeded to strike out Michael Harris, stranding the tying run on second to lock down his 28th save this season. The 27-year-old Diaz has now delivered seven straight scoreless appearances (seven innings), allowing just one hit while striking out seven in that span. His ERA is down to 4.14 on the year with a 1.27 WHIP and 54:28 K:BB across 54.1 innings.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Diagnosed with elbow strain
Williamson left Tuesday's game against Atlanta with a left elbow strain, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Williamson suffered the injury after throwing a pitch in the second inning of Tuesday's contest and had to be taken out of the game immediately afterward. The Reds haven't specified the severity of his injury, but if the team elects to place the left-hander back on the injured list, his season would be put to an early end after just four starts.

Reds' Brandon Williamson: Exits with trainer
Williamson was removed from his start Tuesday against Atlanta with an apparent injury, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Williamson appeared to be grabbing at his left elbow after making a pitch in the second inning of Tuesday's contest. The specifics of his injury won't be known until the Reds are able to take a closer look at him, but the 26-year-old southpaw may be at risk of missing even more time after sitting out the first five months of the season due to a shoulder issue.

Reds' Nick Lodolo: Done for 2024
Reds manager David Bell said Tuesday that Lodolo (finger) won't return from the injured list before the end of the season, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
The left-hander will end up missing the final five-plus weeks of the season due to the sprained finger he sustained Aug. 22 against the Pirates. Lodolo should have plenty of time to get healthy before the start of spring training and closes out 2024 with a 4.76 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 122:37 K:BB over 115.1 innings (21 starts).

Reds' Hunter Greene: Throws 50-pitch simulated game
Greene (elbow) threw 50 pitches over a three-inning simulated game Tuesday at Great American Ball Park, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Greene came out of the session feeling great. While it should set him up to rejoin the Reds' rotation Sunday against the Pirates, the team has not yet confirmed as much. If Greene does indeed start Sunday, he would be surely be working on a pretty limited pitch count. The right-hander has been shelved since mid-August with right elbow inflammation.

Reds' Rhett Lowder: Saddled with tough-luck loss
Lowder (1-2) took the loss Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk across 5.1 innings against the Twins. He struck out five.
Lowder entered the sixth with a one-run lead but was pulled after having allowed two batters to reach base with one out in the inning. Each of those baserunners later came around to score, saddling Lowder with two additional earned runs and handing him a tough-luck defeat. The 22-year-old rookie has been highly effective across four starts since earning the call from Triple-A, having allowed just one earned run prior to the three runs allowed Sunday. An encouraging trend is that he's also kept the walks in check, having allowed just one over his last two starts after allowing eight over his first two appearances. He's currently set up to make his next start in a home matchup against the Pirates.

Reds' Will Benson: Not starting Sunday
Benson (finger) is absent from Sunday's lineup against the Twins.
Benson is not starting for a third straight game after sustaining an injury to his left middle finger during Thursday's game against the Cardinals. He did enter Saturday's game against the Twins in the bottom of the seventh inning in right field, and he hit an RBI single in the eighth frame. Benson will likely be available out of the dugout for Sunday's series finale, and with the Reds scheduled for an off-day Monday, the 26-year-old could return to the lineup for Cincinnati's upcoming home series against Atlanta.

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Drives in two in win
Marte went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over Minnesota.
Marte, whose ground-rule double plated two during the Reds' nine-run fourth inning, entered the contest with just one RBI over the previous 13 games. Not much has gone right for him since returning from an 80-game suspension, and recently he's lost playing time to Santiago Espinal. Marte's played just seven of 13 games thus far in September.

Reds' Spencer Steer: Sets new high for RBI
Steer went 1-for-4 with a walk, a double, two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Twins.
All of Steer's activity occurred during the Reds' nine-run fourth inning. He led off the frame with a walk and scored the first run, then doubled in a pair before trotting home on TJ Friedl's home run. The two runs driven in established a new single-season career high of 88 RBI and were the first in 10 games for Steer, who entered the contest with just three RBI over the previous 17 games. Despite the recent lack of run production, Steer remains Cincinnati's leader in the category.

Reds' Jeimer Candelario: Could be done for season
Candelario (toe) is unlikely to return and finish the season, MLB.com reports.
Candelario, who was hit by a pitch during a game Aug. 18, landed on the injured list a couple of days later and has yet to resume baseball activities. Cincinnati manager David Bell said Saturday that it looks like Candelario will not be back this season, adding there is still pain in the toe. If that's it for Candelario, he'll finish his first season as a member of the Reds with 20 home runs, 56 RBI, four steals, 47 runs scored and a line of .225/.279/.429 over 112 games.

Reds' Jake Fraley: Smacks fifth home run
Fraley went 3-for-4 with a solo homer and an additional run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Twins.
Fraley continued a recent hot stretch at the plate since returning from a stint on the injured list due to a knee injury. After hitting 15 homers last season, Fraley has struggled in the power department with just five home runs in 2024, though he has two over his last 13 games. The 29-year-old has started each of the Reds last 13 games and has a hit in 11 of those games with a .333 batting average in that span. Fraley picked up his fifth three-hit game of the season and raised his batting average to .280 in the process.

Friedl went 4-for-4 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Saturday's 11-1 win over the Twins.
After a three-hit game Friday against the Twins, Friedl followed it up with four hits in Saturday's win. It was Friedl's first four-hit game this season and the second overall in his career. Friedl has homered in back-to-back games and now has 13 for the season with five RBI and four runs scored in his last two games. The 29-year-old has dealt with multiple injuries this season, but he's been healthy and playing regularly since the end of July and has nine homers and 37 RBI in his last 45 games.
