  • Phillies' Andrew Painter: Invited to spring training

The Phillies have extended Painter an invitation to big-league camp during spring training, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

While Painter will be in major-league camp, he will not appear in any Grapefruit League games, as the Phillies plan to ramp him up slowly as he makes his way back from July 2023 Tommy John surgery. The right-hander didn't throw any innings in 2023 and tossed just 15.2 frames in the Arizona Fall League in 2024. He's not expected to be an option for the Phillies' rotation until around midseason. Fellow top prospects Justin Crawford and Aidan Miller were also invited to big-league camp by the Phillies.

The 27-year-old southpaw logged a 5.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 66.2 innings with the Marlins before a lumbar stress reaction put an early end to his season in June. After being traded to the Phillies, he recently told reporters that he's fully recovered from his injury and is a candidate to bounce back in 2025 after posting a 3.48 ERA between 2022-23.

  • Phillies' Aaron Combs: Traded to Philadelphia

The Phillies acquired Aaron Combs from the White Sox on Wednesday in exchange for Tyler Gilbert.

The left-hander said he's "felt 100 percent the whole offseason" and is going through his normal throwing program. Acquired by the Phillies from the Marlins via trade in December, Luzardo posted a 5.00 ERA while being limited to just 12 starts in 2024 due to a flexor strain and back problem, but the 27-year-old is confident he can bounce back with his new team now that he's healthy. • Phillies' Andrew Painter: Not expected in majors until July

Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said Monday that Painter (elbow) likely won't pitch in the majors until "July-ish," Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.

The young right-hander threw 103.2 innings in 2022 and none in 2023 before tossing just 15.2 frames in the Arizona Fall League this year.
