Blue Jays' Anthony Santander: Smacks homer in nightcap
Santander went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo homer in the Blue Jays' 5-1 loss to the Yankees in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader.
Santander went 0-for-4 with three punchouts in Game 1, but he rebounded in Game 2 when he took Clarke Schmidt deep to right field for a solo homer. Santander's moonshot was his third of the season and snapped a five-game hitless streak. He's slashing .179/.261/.302 with eight runs scored and nine RBI over 119 plate appearances.

Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt: Yields four runs in loss
Bassitt (2-2) came away with the loss in Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five over 5.2 innings.
Bassitt gave up a solo homer to Trent Grisham in the first at-bat of the first inning, but the former settled in keep the Yankees off the board over the next four frames. However, things fell apart in the sixth inning for Bassitt when he was tagged for three more runs, including a solo home run by Aaron Judge to open the frame. Bassitt allowed just two earned runs over his first four starts of the season, but he has given up eight runs over his last two outings and is up to a 2.62 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 39:7 K:BB across 34.1 innings. He's lined up to face the Guardians at home next weekend.

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Roughed up in third inning
Gausman (2-3) took the loss in Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees, allowing six runs on three hits and five walks while striking out two over 2.2 innings.
Gausman got through the first two innings with relative ease but ran into trouble in the third. He issued a single and five walks (including two with the bases loaded) before giving up a bases-clearing double to Austin Wells that gave the Yankees a 6-1 lead. Gausman tossed 53 of his 71 pitches in the third inning before being lifted and is now up to a 4.50 ERA and 1.03 WHIP in 34 innings. He'll look to bounce back in his next start, tentatively slated for next weekend at home against the Guardians.

Blue Jays' Alejandro Kirk: Breather in Game 2
Kirk is not in the starting lineup for the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader with the Yankees.
Kirk will take a seat after he went 2-for-4 while drawing the start behind the plate in the team's 11-2 loss in Game 1. Tyler Heineman will take over at catcher and bat seventh versus New York.

Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Sitting for Game 2
Clement is not in the starting lineup for Game 2 of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
Clement will head to the bench after he went 1-for-4 in the team's 11-2 matinee loss Sunday. Will Wagner will take over at the hot corner and bat sixth in the nightcap with New York.

Blue Jays' Erik Swanson: Starting rehab stint
Swanson (forearm) will report to Single-A Dunedin to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Swanson has been sidelined for the first month of the season due to carpal tunnel syndrome in his forearm, but he's now been cleared for game action in the minors. The right-hander will likely require a handful of appearances before being ready to make his season debut for the Blue Jays.

Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho: On cusp of activation
Manager John Schneider said Varsho (shoulder) will play in center field Sunday with Triple-A Buffalo before being activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Varsho hasn't gotten on track offensively through six games of the rehab assignment with just two hits in 21 at-bats, but the Blue Jays are apparently ready to bring him off the injured list. The 28-year-old had a .214/.293/.407 slash line in 136 games last season and should take over as Toronto's primary center fielder.

Blue Jays' Alan Roden: Sitting for matinee
Roden is out of the lineup for the first game of Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees.
It's the second straight game on the bench for Roden, who has gone hitless with seven strikeouts in his past 17 at-bats. Jonatan Clase, who was called up as the 27th man for the doubleheader, is starting in left field for the matinee.

Blue Jays' Chad Dallas: Done for season
Dallas, who is on the 60-day injured list at Triple-A Buffalo with an undisclosed injury, will not pitch in 2025, Thomas Hall of The Jays Nation reports.
He logged a 6.34 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 50:24 K:BB in 61 innings at Triple-A in 2024. Dallas had consistent success in the lower levels thanks to a great slider, but his subpar fastball velocity may limit him to a low-leverage relief role in the majors.

Blue Jays' Connor Cooke: Out for 2025
Cooke, who is on the 60-day injured list at Triple-A Buffalo with an undisclosed injury, will not pitch in 2025, Thomas Hall of The Jays Nation reports.
It sounds like Cooke is likely recovering from a surgery, so it's not a given he'll be ready for 2026 spring training. He was one of the Jays' top relief prospects a couple years ago, but Cooke logged walk rates over 18 percent at Triple-A in 2023 and 2024.

Blue Jays' Jonatan Clase: Called up for DH, starting opener
Clase was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo and designated the 27th player for Sunday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He's starting in left field and batting eighth in the first game.
The 22-year-old missed out on Toronto's Opening Day roster but will join the big club for Sunday's twin bill. Clase has been off to a hot start at Buffalo this year with 12 steals and a .364/.475/.424 slash line through 21 games.

Blue Jays' Dahian Santos: On 60-day IL
Double-A New Hampshire placed Santos on the 60-day injured list March 19.
It's unclear what Santos' injury is. The 22-year-old righty moved from a starting role in 2023 to a relief role in 2024 due to his shaky control and durability issues. He logged a 6.00 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 31:20 K:BB in 27 innings last year at Double-A.

Blue Jays' Mason Fluharty: Collects first big-league win
Fluharty (1-0) picked up his first career win Friday in a victory over the Yankees, giving up one run on one hit and one walk over two-thirds of an inning.
It wasn't a clean outing, but after letting New York take a 2-1 lead in the eighth inning on an Austin Wells sacrifice fly, Fluharty got bailed out in the top of the ninth by a three-run surge from the Toronto offense. The 23-year-old lefty has been mostly effective since making his MLB debut at the beginning of April, posting a 3.12 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 9:5 K:BB in 8.2 innings.

Blue Jays' Trey Yesavage: Racking up Ks at Single-A
Yesavage struck out 10 and gave up two runs on one hit and two walks over 4.2 innings for Single-A Dunedin on Friday.
It's the second straight start with double-digit strikeouts for the 2024 first-round pick, who is predictably dominating Florida State League hitters. Yesavage sports a 3.12 ERA, 0.99 WHIP and 28:8 K:BB through 17.1 innings, and once the weather gets better in the Pacific Northwest, the 21-year-old right-hander should receive a promotion to High-A Vancouver, where he'll face a better test of his current skills.

Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman: Jays-Yankees postponed
Gausman and the Blue Jays won't face the Yankees on Saturday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather
Toronto and New York will play a doubleheader Sunday to make up for Saturday's contest, and Gausman will start the early game. He'll be looking to bounce back from a subpar performance his last time out, which saw him give up four runs in six innings against the Astros.
