Mavericks' Klay Thompson: Makes preseason debut Thursday
Thompson scored 10 points (3-9 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT) while adding three assists across 18 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 preseason loss to the Jazz.
Head coach Jason Kidd announced before the 8 p.m. ET tip-off that Thompson would play under a minutes' restriction, and that's precisely what happened, as the sharpshooter logged less than 20 minutes and didn't step on the court in the second half. Thompson will be the Mavericks' third option on offense once the regular season begins with a matchup against the Spurs on Oct. 24, and that new role in Dallas should limit his fantasy upside considerably.

Mavericks' Kyrie Irving: Scores 12 points in preseason debut
Irving notched 12 points (6-11 FG, 0-4 3Pt), four rebounds and an assist across 17 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 preseason loss to the Jazz.
Just like head coach Jason Kidd announced before the 8 p.m. ET tip-off, Irving played less than 20 minutes and didn't step on the court in the second half. The veteran floor general should ramp up his minutes in the final two preseason outings, against the Clippers and Bucks, to be ready for the Oct. 24 regular-season opener against the Spurs.

Mavericks' Olivier-Maxence Prosper: Takes advantage of spot start
Prosper delivered 10 points (3-8 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 3-3 FT), 10 rebounds and an assist across 33 minutes in Thursday's 107-102 preseason loss to the Jazz.
Prosper got the start in the frontcourt alongside Dereck Lively, and there's no question the second-year forward took advantage of the opportunity. As good as he looked alongside Lively, Prosper's path at regular minutes in the regular season is blocked, meaning he shouldn't have any value in most fantasy formats regardless of how good he looks during his brief preseason cameos.

Marshall isn't starting Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.

Mavericks' Dereck Lively: Running with first unit
Lively is starting Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
Lively will get a look at center over Daniel Gafford in Thursday's exhibition. The Duke product looked solid in his last appearance off the bench Monday against Memphis, logging 12 points, three rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes.

Mavericks' Quentin Grimes: Coming off the bench Thursday
Grimes is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
The Mavericks are starting Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving for this preseason contest, so Grimes should see minutes off the bench. However, he should see minutes off the bench once most of the starters are no longer on the floor.

Mavericks' Jaden Hardy: Not starting vs. Utah
Hardy is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
The Mavericks are starting Klay Thompson and Kyrie Irving for this preseason contest, so Hardy should see minutes off the bench. However, both starters will have a minutes restriction, so Hardy should still see minutes throughout the contest.

Mavericks' Kyrie Irving: Will play under 20 minutes
Irving will play around 15 to 18 minutes during the first half in Thursday's preseason contest against the Jazz, head coach Jason Kidd told Kevin Gray Jr. of AllDLLS.com.
The minutes' restriction makes sense for Irving, as the Mavericks are looking to manage the workload of their star players with the regular season just around the corner. Irving will play alongside Klay Thompson in Thursday's game against Utah, but Luka Doncic (calf) remains out.

Mavericks' Klay Thompson: Will play first half Thursday
Thompson will play around 15 to 18 minutes during the first half in Thursday's preseason contest against the Jazz, head coach Jason Kidd told Kevin Gray Jr. of AllDLLS.com.
Thompson didn't play in the preseason opener against the Grizzlies on Monday, but this game Thursday will be the first time he'll feature for the Mavericks. He'll play alongside Kyrie Irving, who has been cleared to play as well, but Luka Doncic (calf) has been ruled out.

Mavericks' Brandon Williams: Sidelined once again
Williams (calf) will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz.
Williams is on a two-way contract, so missing preseason action doesn't help his cause. Still, even if healthy, he shouldn't have a shot at making the regular-season rotation. He should be considered questionable to face the Clippers on Monday.

Mavericks' Kessler Edwards: Not playing Thursday
Edwards (ankle) will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz.
Edwards is set to miss a second consecutive preseason contest. His next chance to play will come against the Clippers on Monday, though he's a long shot to crack the Opening Night roster even if healthy.

Mavericks' P.J. Washington: Out once again
Washington (hip) will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz.
Washington is set to miss a second consecutive preseason contest due to a hip issue. His next chance to play will come against the Clippers on Monday, but his focus is on getting ready for the start of the regular season against the Spurs on Oct. 24.

Mavericks' Maxi Kleber: Not facing Jazz
Kleber (ankle) will not play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz.
Kleber has yet to suit up for any of Dallas' two preseason games, and while his next chance to feature will come against the Clippers on Monday, it wouldn't be surprising if he misses another game or two. He's working to be ready for the start of the regular season against the Spurs on Oct. 24, but even in the scenario he's healthy for the first game of the campaign, he'd have a minimal role at best.

Mavericks' Luka Doncic: Won't play vs. Utah
Doncic (calf) won't play in Thursday's preseason game against the Jazz, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports.
Doncic already missed the preseason opener against the Grizzlies, and the Mavericks are being extremely cautious with his injury. His next chance to play will come against the Clippers on Monday, though the Mavs only have two preseason tune-ups left before their regular-season opener against the Spurs on Oct. 24.

Mavericks' A.J. Lawson: Inks two-way deal
The Mavericks are signing Lawson to a two-way contract Thursday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Lawson was let go by Dallas on Tuesday but has now been brought back as a two-way player. He will spend the 2024-25 campaign splitting time between the Mavericks and their G League affiliate, the Texas Legends.

Mavericks' Dante Exum: Out long term after wrist surgery
Exum is expected to miss three months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist Wednesday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Exum sustained the injury in training camp last week and doesn't look like he'll be ready to contribute until at least January after having surgery. After a two-year stop overseas, Exum returned stateside for the 2023-24 campaign and proved to be a useful complementary piece for the Mavericks, averaging 7.8 points, 2.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds over 19.8 minutes while shooting 53.3 percent from the field in 55 appearances. His absence for the first few months of the season could open up more playing time off the bench for Spencer Dinwiddie, Jaden Hardy and/or Quentin Grimes.

Mavericks' Dereck Lively: Perfect from field Monday
Lively posted 12 points (5-5 FG, 2-4 FT), three rebounds, two assists and two steals over 14 minutes in Monday's 121-116 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.
Lively played just 14 minutes off the bench Monday, but he managed to connect on all five of his shots from the field. Lively was the Mavs' starting center for the first half of the 2023-24 regular season, but he ceded that spot to Daniel Gafford after the latter was acquired from the Wizards at the trade deadline. Lively will likely be the first big man off the bench for the Mavericks to start the 2024-25 campaign.

Mavericks' Olivier-Maxence Prosper: Three swipes vs. Memphis
Prosper logged 14 points (4-12 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 6-9 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one block over 31 minutes in Monday's 121-116 preseason loss to the Grizzlies.
Prosper got an extended look in the Mavericks' preseason opener as multiple starters sat out of Monday's contest. He was one of four reserve players to score in double digits, and his three steals were second on the team behind Jazian Gortman (four). Prosper saw inconsistent playing time during the 2023-24 regular season and appeared in only two playoff games, both of which occurred during garbage time.
