  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Lands on injured reserve

Dobbins (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.

Head coach Jim Harbaugh suggested earlier in the week the talented running back would be out some time, and now we know Dobbins will miss at minimum four weeks due to a knee sprain. He should be back well in time for the NFL playoffs, but fantasy managers will be without the powerful back until at least Week 17 against the Patriots. Gus Edwards and Hassan Haskins were the two backs used in the Week 12 loss to the Ravens, but that was in part because rookie Kimani Vidal wasn't active for the contest, as the Chargers prefer Haskins' utility on special teams. Vidal could be poised to see the biggest leap in playing time, perhaps effectively taking over Dobbins' role as an explosive option out of the backfield, with Edwards operating as a bruising between-the-tackles ball carrier.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Officially out against Falcons

Dobbins (knee) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Falcons.

Dobbins will miss at least one game, as expected, after spraining the MCL in his left knee during Monday's 30-23 loss to the Ravens. Gus Edwards is likely to get the majority of backfield playing time against the Falcons, with Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins also on hand. Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Dobbins will "miss some time" due to the injury, so it's unclear if Dobbins has a chance to return Week 14 against the Chiefs.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Set to miss time, per Harbaugh

Head coach Jim Harbaugh said Wednesday that Dobbins is "working through something with his knee," while adding that he expects the running back to "miss some time," Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com Dobbins suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee during Monday's loss to the Ravens, and as a result, the running back is expected to be out Sunday against the Falcons before being considered week-to-week beyond that. If Dobbins is indeed unavailable this weekend, Rhim indicates that Gus Edwards will likely get the bulk of the carries versus Atlanta. Meanwhile, reserve backs Kimani Vidal and Hassan Haskins would be on hand for change-of-pace work behind Edwards.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Not expected to play Week 13

Dobbins sustained a left knee sprain in Monday's 30-23 loss to the Ravens and is likely to miss the Chargers' Week 13 game Sunday versus the Falcons, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Dobbins is no stranger to knee injuries, having previously missed the entire 2021 season after tearing the ACL, LCL and meniscus in his left knee. He also missed all but one game in 2023 due to a torn Achilles' tendon, but he had staged a successful return this season with the Chargers, having suited up in each of the team's first 11 games while averaging 4.8 yards per carry and scoring eight touchdowns. However, Dobbins now looks poised to miss time after getting hurt Monday, with Rapoport noting that the 25-year-old's status will also be up in the air beyond the Week 13 matchup with the Falcons. Gus Edwards is expected to step in as the Chargers' lead option on the ground this week, but rookie sixth-round pick Kimani Vidal and third-year back Hassan Haskins could also be in store for expanded roles out of the backfield.

  • Chargers' J.K. Dobbins: Nursing MCL sprain

Dobbins is tending to an MCL sprain in his left knee and is expected to sit out Sunday's game against the Falcons, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. He'll be viewed as week-to-week following Sunday's contest.

Dobbins was forced out of Monday's 30-23 loss to the Ravens in the second quarter due to the knee issue and now looks set to miss his first game of the season. Before injuring his knee, Dobbins had staged a successful comeback from the torn Achilles' tendon that cut short his 2023 season, as he had played in each of the Chargers' first 11 games while accounting for 900 yards from scrimmage and eight touchdowns. In Dobbins' expected absence, Gus Edwards is poised to take over as the Chargers' lead runner, while rookie Kimani Vidal could emerge as the preferred option on passing downs. Hassan Haskins is also on hand and could also provide some relief for Edwards out of the backfield.
