Texans' Jalen Pitre: Gets extension from Houston
Pitre (pectoral) has agreed to terms on a three-year extension with the Texans, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Pitre's deal -- which is reportedly worth roughly $39 million -- includes $29.2 million in guarantees, which would make him the NFL's highest-paid nickel back. In 12 games during the 2024 regular season, the 25-year-old recorded 65 tackles and an interception prior to sustaining a season-ending pectoral injury. Per Aaron Wilson, KPRC 2 Houston, Pitre is on track to participate in OTAs, which puts the 2022 second-rounder in line to reclaim his key role in a Houston secondary that also features Derek Stingley, who the team signed to a lucrative three-year extension last month.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: On track for OTAs
Pitre said Sunday that he underwent successful surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle and that he is progressing well enough in his recovery to be on track to participate in OTAs, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Pitre served as the Texans' nickel cornerback before tearing his pectoral muscle in Week 12 against the Titans, and he finished the 2024 regular season with 65 tackles (44 solo), eight pass defenses (including one interception) and one forced fumble across 12 games. Jimmie Ward replaced Pitre at nickel, but the former was replaced by Myles Bryant after suffering a season-ending foot injury. Pitre is eligible for a contract extension, and the 2022 second-round pick relayed that he hopes to sign a long-term deal with Houston during the offseason.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Placed on IR
The Texans placed Pitre (pectoral) on injured reserve Friday.
Pitre will require surgery to address a ruptured pectoral muscle, which rules him out from the remainder of the 2024 campaign, including any postseason action Houston participates in. With Pitre unavailable, all of Eric Murray, M.J. Stewart, and Myles Bryant could benefit from increased opportunities down the stretch, including Sunday versus the Dolphins.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Set for season-ending surgery
Pitre will require surgery on his ruptured pectoral and will miss the remainder of the campaign, Jonathan M. Alexander of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Pitre suffered a partial pectoral rupture Week 12 against Tennessee and was already set to miss multiple games. However, with the news that he'll need surgery, the talented young defensive back will not be able to return to action until 2025. Pitre finishes the 2024 campaign with 65 tackles (44 solo), eight pass breakups and one interception over 12 contests.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Won't play Week 13
Pitre (pectoral) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Jaguars.
Pitre was unable to practice all week due to a partial pecotral tear that he suffered during the Texans' loss to the Titans this past Sunday. With Houston on a bye for Week 14, Pitre's next chance to play will be Week 15 against the Dolphins on Sunday, Dec. 15.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Suffers partial pectoral tear
Pitre sustained a partially ruptured pectoral during Sunday's game versus the Titans, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
It still hasn't been decided whether Pitre will need surgery to repair the muscle, and the results of that evaluation will probably determine how long he'll need to sit out as he recovers. Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, he'll likely have to miss multiple games either way, which could mean increased opportunities for Eric Murray and M.J. Stewart.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Won't return Sunday
Pitre (shoulder) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Titans.
Pitre suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game, which is severe enough for him to be sidelined for its remainder. Jimmie Ward and M.J. Stewart will pick up additional defensive snaps in the secondary due to Pitre's injury.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Leaves game with shoulder injury
Pitre (shoulder) is questionable to return to Sunday's game against the Titans.
Pitre suffered a shoulder injury in the second quarter of Sunday's game, and he went back to the locker room after being evaluated by trainers in the blue medical tent. M.J. Stewart would be the top candidate to fill in at slot corner if Pitre is unable to return.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Forces key fumble in win
Pitre recorded nine tackles (four solo) and a forced fumble during Monday's 34-10 win at Dallas.
Pitre came flying from the defensive backfield on a chaotic play early in the fourth quarter, smashing into left tackle Tyler Guyton as he tried to advance a Cooper Rush fumble. Guyton then became the second Dallas player to fumble that down, allowing defensive lineman Derek Barnett to scoop up the ball and run 28 yards into the end zone to make the score 27-10. Pitre is on the fringe of IDP consideration in some formats for a Week 12 tilt versus the Titans.

Texans' Jalen Pitre: Sets up touchdown
Pitre made four tackles, including one for a loss, and had an interception in Sunday's 23-20 win over Indianapolis in Week 8.
Pitre's contribution to the win was intercepting an Anthony Richardson pass deep in the Colts' territory. One play later, C.J. Stroud threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Tank Dell, giving the Texans a lead it would not relinquish. Pitre moved back to a hybrid role in the secondary this season -- a similar role he played at Baylor -- playing both cornerback and safety and showed modest improvement in his coverage. Missed tackles have been an issue, as they've been throughout his career, but Pitre has shown improvement in all areas of defense.
