Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Brilliant effort in Week 1 win

Lawrence completed 18 of 23 passes for 245 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing twice for two yards in the Jaguars' 34-10 win over the Browns on Sunday.
Lawrence's afternoon was about as smooth as his numbers suggest, as he helped stake the Jaguars to a 24-0 halftime lead with a trio of touchdown tosses to Parker Washington (30 yards), Josh Cameron (four yards) and Brenton Strange (14 yards). Lawrence added a 32-yard scoring strike to Jakobi Meyers to cap off the opening possession of the second half, and the air attack didn't need to do much more heavy lifting from that point on after the TD extended Jacksonville's lead to 31-0. Lawrence gets a much stiffer test in Week 2, however, as the Jaguars pay a visit to the Broncos next Sunday afternoon.

Lawrence averaged 30.2 Fantasy points per game in his final eight outings last season, including the playoffs, and he should pick up where he left off in Week 1. We'll see how the Browns defense looks without Myles Garrett, and Cleveland was No. 4 in fewest Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks last season. But I'm expecting Lawrence to be one of the elite Fantasy quarterbacks in 2026, and this should be a big outing for him, especially since he's at home. Lawrence averaged 29.9 Fantasy points in his past five games in Jacksonville last season.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Will be backed up by Ewers

Lawrence will have a new backup in 2026, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that the Jaguars traded for Quinn Ewers from the Dolphins on Saturday.
Ewers was retained on the 53-man roster after final cuts, while Nick Mullens was released during cut-down day, though Mullens subsequently signed with the practice squad. Lawrence remains locked in as the team's starting QB on the heels of a 2025 regular season in which he threw for 4,007 yards and a career-high 29 passing touchdowns. The first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has exceeded 4,000 passing yards in three of his first five NFL seasons.

Jaguars' Trevor Lawrence: Sitting out preseason opener

Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Tuesday that Lawrence and the team's other established starters will sit out Saturday's preseason opener versus the Saints, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Per John Shipley of SI.com, the Jaguars don't plan on having Lawrence see much action in their final two exhibition contests either, a departure from how he's been utilized in his prior five preseasons. The QB doesn't believe a lack of preseason reps will affect his preparation heading into Week 1, especially now that he has a year under his belt in Coen's offensive system. The 26-year-old had the best fantasy season of his career in 2025, setting personal bests in touchdown passes (29), rushing yards (359) and rushing touchdowns (nine).

Lawrence has seemingly mastered Coen's offensive scheme in advance of training camp, and he's at full health this offseason after having faced limitations last summer due to a recovery from shoulder surgery. Per Shipley, Lawrence displayed command of the downfield passing attack during spring workouts and appears to have established better chemistry with Brian Thomas. The Jaguars have an abundance of riches to draw on in the aerial attack, with Thomas being joined by Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington, Travis Hunter (knee) and TE Brenton Strange, so Lawrence is in good position to build on his impressive finish to the 2025 season. An emphasis for Lawrence this offseason has been building chemistry with his wide receivers on downfield throws, Casandra Chesser of Jaguars Wire reports.
Chesser named Brian Thomas in particular as someone Lawrence is working to fortify his bond with in the deep passing game. Lawrence attempted the sixth-most passes of 20-plus air yards last season (590), but he completed just 36.1 percent of such throws, checking in at 25th among qualified quarterbacks. If he can take his deep passing game to another level, the Jacksonville offense would be even more lethal after the unit went nuclear down the stretch last regular season. From Weeks 9 to 18, the Jaguars averaged 32.8 points per game across 10 contests, and Lawrence had a sparkling 18:4 TD:INT mark across the final seven regular-season games. Even facing one of the toughest matchups in the league, Lawrence continued his very strong stretch of play. He completed six passes of at least 20 yards in addition to touchdown strikes from 12, 10 and three yards away. While he had a modest yardage total on the ground, he chipped in a one-yard rushing score midway through the third quarter to give him five rushing touchdowns in his last eight contests. Overall, Lawrence has at least 240 passing yards in four of his last five games while accounting for multiple scores in all five contests. Though it didn't cost him playing time, Lawrence did have his ankle taped late in the game, which could be worth monitoring throughout the week, per Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union.
