Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux: Fifth-year option picked up
General manager Joe Schoen said Thursday that the Giants will pick up Thibodeaux's fifth-year option, Dan Salomone of the team's official site reports.
Thibodeaux will be with the Giants through the 2026 season and will collect $14.75 million in the fifth year of his rookie deal. The 2022 first-round pick missed five games in 2024 due to a wrist injury and finished the regular season with 28 tackles (14 solo), including 5.5 sacks, two pass defenses and one forced fumble in 12 games. Thibodeaux will be part of a formidable defensive front consisting of Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence (elbow) and 2025 third-overall pick Abdul Carter (foot).

Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux: Takes step back in third campaign
Thibodeaux ended the 2024 regular season with 28 tackles (14 solo), including 5.5 sacks, along with two defensed passes and one forced fumble over 12 games (all starts).
After leaping forward with 11.5 sacks in his sophomore season in 2023, Thibodeaux didn't reach even half that total in 2024. Part of that was due to a wrist injury that cost him five games prior to New York's Week 11 bye, but it's also worth noting that 2.5 of the Oregon product's sacks came in the Giants' final two contests when the team was already out of postseason contention. Thibodeaux may still be a big part of New York's future, but the organization may opt to exercise his fifth-year option in the offseason rather than focus on negotiating an extension.

Giants' Kayvon Thibodeaux: Records sack Week 14
Thibodeaux registered three tackles (two solo), including 1.0 sacks, in Sunday's Week 14 loss to the Saints.
In addition to the sack, Thibodeaux had an additional quarterback hit and an additional tackle for loss. The sack came at a crucial time, as Thibodeaux brought down Saints QB Jake Haener on a second-down play with less than two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, leading to a New Orleans punt to give New York a shot at a late comeback. Sunday's sack was Thibodeaux's first since Week 5, though it's important to note that he missed Weeks 6-10 due to a wrist injury.
