Washington's rookie year got off to a quiet start, with just 10 grabs for 54 yards across his first 10 regular-season appearances, but in his last four games the sixth-rounder managed a 16-169-0 line on 20 targets. To see Washington compile some late-season momentum as a rookie is encouraging for his future prospects, especially with the development of Tyreek Hill seemingly wanting to move on from the Dolphins. If Washington can string together a strong offseason, he could earn a key role behind Jaylen Waddle for the 2025 campaign.

  Washington finished with four receptions on five targets for 41 yards while losing 11 yards on his only carry in Sunday's 20-3 win over Cleveland. Washington squandered another starting opportunity when he lost 11 yards on his only rushing attempt to further dampen a modest receiving day (4-41-0). The sixth-round rookie is not shaping up to be a strong fantasy play in Week 18, especially if injured starter Jaylen Waddle (knee) is able to recover from his current injury. Washington should be considered only a deep-league option in next Sunday's scheduled tilt against the Jets.

  Washington brought in three of four targets for 28 yards in Sunday's 29-17 win over the 49ers. Washington was expected to take on an expanded role sans starter Jaylen Waddle (knee). Unfortunately for speculative fantasy managers, the wideout finished with less yards and receptions than he did filling in for Waddle in the second half of last week's loss to the Texans. Waddle's status for Week 17 is still up in the air, but Washington would still boast the potential for those in deeper formats should the star wideout miss next Sunday's tilt against the Browns.

• Dolphins' Malik Washington: Set for expanded role

  With both Jaylen Waddle (knee) and Dee Eskridge (knee) listed as doubtful and Tyreek Hill (wrist/personal) questionable for Sunday's game against the 49ers, Washington is likely to see an expanded role on offense, Travis Wingfield of the Dolphins' official site reports. Washington and River Cracraft are the Dolphins' lone healthy wide receivers currently on the 53-man roster. Miami does have a trio of wideouts on the practice squad, which includes Erik Ezukanma, Tarik Black and Isaiah McKenzie. After Waddle got hurt last week versus Houston, Washington stepped in and played a season-high 59 percent of the offensive snaps while leading the team in receiving with a 5-52-0 line on six targets.

The rookie sixth-round pick has impressed in recent practice while Jaylen Waddle (undisclosed) and Braxton Berrios (undisclosed) have missed time, and he took advantage of Tyreek Hill logging limited work Wednesday. Head coach Mike McDaniel praised Washington's early development during Wednesday's presser, noting that the receiver is "operating as a pro in terms of how he's studying, his ownership of the playbook, and how reliable he is with assignments for his teammates." The rookie could further help his stock if he's able to flash in Friday's preseason opener against Atlanta.

• Dolphins' Malik Washington: Miami scoops wideout in Round 6

  The Dolphins selected Washington in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 184th overall. Washington was expected to go a good two rounds earlier than this, so the former Virginia and Northwestern standout could prove to be a nice pick for the Dolphins this late. Washington doesn't look like your typical coach Mike McDaniel wideout at 5-foot-9, 191 pounds, and he lacks the lateral dynamism of wideouts like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but it seems like Washington should be able to assist the Dolphins offense if only in a small role. More specifically, at his height Washington is likely somewhat slot dependent, and unlike most slot wideouts he's more explosive vertically than laterally. With a 4.47-second 40-yard dash and standout hands, there should be enough here for McDaniel to figure something out, just perhaps never in a starting role for Washington.
