  • Giants' William Gay: Returns to practice

Gay (hamstring) returned to practice Sunday, Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com reports.

  • Giants' William Gay: Suffers hamstring injury

Gay exited Friday's practice with a right hamstring injury, Ralph Vacchiano of SportsNet New York reports.

  • Giants' William Gay: Expects to sign with the Giants

Gay signed a contract with the Giants, Ryan Dunleavy of NJ Advance Media reports.

Gay played 10 of his 11 seasons in Pittsburgh, appearing in all 16 games every year of his career. His numbers took a large dip last year, with him recording just 19 tackles and three passes defensed, his worst numbers in a decade. Entering his age-33 season, he'll likely be a backup cornerback while with the Giants.

  • William Gay: Expected to be released

Gay is expected to be released by the Steelers on Wednesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.

Gay is one of the longest tenured Steelers and was a member of the 2008 team that won Super Bowl XLIII. The 11-year vet has indicated he plans to continue playing, despite rumors of potential retirement. Gay appeared in all 16 games for Pittsburgh in 2017 but did not start any of them.

  • Steelers' William Gay: Fewest tackles in his career

Gay, who recorded three tackles (two solo) and a forced fumble in the regular-season finale win over the Browns, finished up the 2017 regular season with 19 tackles (16 solo) with an interception and two forced fumbles in 16 games.

The 19 tackles matched his career low for a season, which he accomplished in 2007, his rookie year. Although he has never missed a game in 11 seasons, his playing time has taken a huge hit, with him taking the field for just 27.2 percent of the team's defensive snaps this season. Gay is signed until 2019, but the limited role makes him a less-than-desirable IDP fantasy option.
