Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: 4 Nations chemistry with Crosby
MacKinnon scored a power-play goal in Canada's 4-3 overtime win over Sweden at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Wednesday.
The goal came in the first minute of play on a blind, backhand spin-a-rama pass from fellow Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia superstar, Sidney Crosby. Sid and Nate spend their summers together training, so all those reps mean the two click without even looking for each other on the ice. MacKinnon was also a bull in overtime, powering in multiple times and pounding Filip Gustavsson with big shots into his body. That kind of play wears down the opposition. MacKinnon is playing a regular shift with Crosby and Mitch Marner, so this tourney is going to be electric with that level of talent.

Avalanche's Calum Ritchie: Steps up in OHL
Ritchie is having a strong campaign with OHL Oshawa, supplying 14 goals and 59 points through 32 outings.
The Avalanche began the 2024-25 campaign dealing with more than their fair share of injuries, in addition to missing Valeri Nichushkin (suspension), which gave Ritchie an opportunity to start the season with the NHL squad. However, Ritchie failed to impress over a seven-game stint, recording one goal, no assists, a minus-7 rating and 11 shots. He logged 16:05 of ice time in his NHL debut and steadily saw his playing time decline from there to a low of 7:14 in his final game with Colorado on Oct. 22. The Avalanche returned him to Oshawa as a result, where he's done far better. While Ritchie's first stint with the Avalanche didn't impress, the 20-year-old has the potential to develop into a solid forward for Colorado. The Avalanche selected him with the No. 27 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft.

Avalanche's Trent Miner: Back in AHL
Miner was loaned to AHL Colorado on Saturday.
Miner was the backup netminder this week to Mackenzie Blackwood, as Scott Wedgewood was on the sidelines due to an upper-body injury. The Avalanche don't play again until Feb. 22 with the NHL taking a break for the 4 Nations Face-Off. Miner has allowed four goals on 33 shots in a pair of NHL appearances this season.

Avalanche's Parker Kelly: Grabs shorthanded assist in win
Kelly logged a shorthanded assist, four hits, four blocked shots and two PIM in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Kelly picked off an errant pass and sent Cale Makar in on the rush for the Avalanche's fourth goal. This was Kelly's second game in a row with a goal, which follows a drought of 10 contests. The 25-year-old forward is earning a little more trust but still plays a defensive role while seeing bottom-six minutes. He's at 13 points (two shorthanded), 65 shots on net, 110 hits, 48 blocks and a minus-8 rating over 57 appearances.

Avalanche's Devon Toews: Supplies two assists in win
Toews recorded a pair of assists, two shots on goal, two blocked shots and a plus-3 rating in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Toews was still overshadowed by defense partner Cale Makar's two-goal, one-assist effort, but it was a good showing for the Avalanche's top players. The 30-year-old Toews helped out on goals by Makar and Artturi Lehkonen in the first period. Toews is up to 27 points, 101 shots on net, 71 blocked shots and a plus-19 rating through 53 appearances this season. He continues to offer steady defensive play and solid offense in a large role.

Avalanche's Martin Necas: Tallies game-winner Friday
Necas scored a goal on three shots, added two PIM and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Necas capitalized on a second chance off a turnover at 15:38 of the third period, and his goal stood as the game-winner. He's up to four goals and a helper over five contests with the Avalanche since he was swapped for Mikko Rantanen. Necas has settled in on the top line and continues to put together a strong second act in what's likely going to be a career year. He's at 20 goals, 64 points, 142 shots on net, 47 hits and a plus-5 rating over 57 appearances this season.

Avalanche's Artturi Lehkonen: Goal, assist in win
Lehkonen scored a goal on four shots, dished a power-play assist, added four PIM, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Lehkonen's pair of points came during the first period, with his goal giving the Avalanche a 3-2 lead late in the frame. This was his first multi-point effort since Jan. 18 versus the Stars, but he has five goals and two assists over his last eight outings. For the season, the winger is up to 23 goals, 10 helpers, 100 shots on net and a plus-24 rating across 45 appearances. His goal-scoring success is fueled by shooting 23 percent, but his overall production is right in line with what he did in an injury-riddled 2023-24 despite a drop in power-play output.

Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Four more points in win
MacKinnon scored a power-play goal on seven shots, added three assists and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
In a battle between the NHL's top two point-earners, MacKinnon prevailed over Leon Draisaitl. MacKinnon is up to a league-leading 87 points, four clear of Draisaitl, who is leading the pack in goals with 40 after scoring twice Friday. MacKinnon has added 26 power-play points, 227 shots and a plus-19 rating through 57 appearances. He'll look to keep things rolling when he plays for Team Canada during the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Avalanche's Cale Makar: Racks up three more points in win
Makar scored two goals on six shots, added an assist, blocked two shots and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Makar's second goal was a shorthanded tally, and his assist came on the power play. The 26-year-old defenseman is one of the hottest players in the league over the last three weeks, racking up nine goals and four assists over his last 11 outings. He's now at 22 goals, 63 points (26 on the power play, two shorthanded), 175 shots on net, 91 blocked shots and a plus-18 rating through 57 appearances.

Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Reaches 20-win mark
Blackwood stopped 23 of 27 shots in Friday's 5-4 win over the Oilers.
Blackwood played back-to-back games in Alberta, and came away with wins in both. This was a challenging matchup, as expected, but Blackwood held firm in the third period and made Martin Necas' tally with 4:22 left in the frame stand as the game-winner. The 28-year-old Blackwood goes into the 4 Nations Face-Off break a winner in five of his last seven starts, improving to 20-15-5 with a 2.53 GAA and a .916 save percentage through 41 appearances. He won't be on international duty during the break, so he'll have two weeks to rest up before the season resumes with a back-to-back on the road -- the Avalanche visit Nashville on Feb. 22 and St. Louis on Feb. 23.

Avalanche's Scott Wedgewood: Slated to sit again
Wedgewood (upper body) is projected to be out of action for Friday's game versus the Oilers, per the NHL media site.
Once again, Wedgewood is listed among the scratches, leaving Trent Miner to serve as Mackenzie Blackwood's backup for Friday's contest. Wedgewood will now have two weeks to recover during the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off. The Avalanche resume their schedule Feb. 22 in Nashville.

Avalanche's Mackenzie Blackwood: Going back-to-back
Blackwood will start on the road versus the Oilers on Friday, Conor McGahey of Altitude TV reports.
Blackwood will start both halves of a back-to-back, as the Avalanche apparently don't want Trent Miner facing the Oilers with Scott Wedgewood (upper body) still ailing. Blackwood made 27 saves on 29 shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames. The 28-year-old has won four of his last six starts with just 12 goals allowed in that span, though the Oilers' offense is always good to produce a challenge, especially in the second half of a back-to-back.

Avalanche's Sam Malinski: Springs breakaway
Malinski notched an assist, two hits, four blocked shots and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames.
Malinski ended a 15-game point drought with the helper. The 26-year-old went minus-2 with 13 shots on net, 20 hits and 17 blocked shots in that span. He's struggled to put together steady performances for large portions of 2024-25. The blueliner has just six points to go with 71 shots on net, 42 hits, 76 blocks and a plus-1 rating over 53 appearances. Malinski has a little short-term security in the lineup as long as Josh Manson (lower body) is out, but he'll be competing with Oliver Kylington, Keaton Middleton and Calvin de Haan once the Avalanche's defense corps is back to full health.

Avalanche's Parker Kelly: Picks up helper in win
Kelly logged an assist, three shots on goal and two hits in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames.
Kelly ended a 10-game slump with the secondary helper on Martin Necas' breakaway goal in the third period. The 25-year-old Kelly has been filling a bottom-six role lately, and that's unlikely to change unless injuries sideline other forwards. The Alberta native is up to 12 points, 64 shots on net, 106 hits, 44 blocked shots and a minus-9 rating over 56 appearances, production roughly in line with what he did in an 18-point showing over 80 regular-season games last year.

Avalanche's Devon Toews: Provides helper
Toews notched an assist in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames.
Toews has been a little quiet since his Jan. 14 goal, adding just four assists over 11 contests since then. The 30-year-old defenseman helped out on Cale Makar's game-tying goal in the second period. Toews continues to log steady top-pairing minutes and has 25 points, 99 shots on net, 69 blocked shots and a plus-16 rating over 52 appearances. He's unlikely to match last year's 12-goal, 50-point effort over 82 regular-season contests, but he rarely hurts fantasy managers who choose to play him.

Avalanche's Nathan MacKinnon: Distributes trio of assists
MacKinnon notched three assists, two shots on goal, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames.
MacKinnon set up all three of the Avalanche's second-period tallies, scored by Cale Makar, Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Necas (on the power play). This was just the second multi-point effort in the last 10 games for MacKinnon, but he has gotten on the scoresheet in eight of those outings. The superstar center reclaimed the NHL lead in points with 83 (20 goals, 63 helpers), and he's added 220 shots on net, 29 PIM, 29 hits, 46 blocked shots and a plus-17 rating over 56 appearances.

Avalanche's Artturi Lehkonen: Deposits goal in win
Lehkonen scored a goal on five shots and went plus-3 in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Flames.
Lehkonen gave the Avalanche their first lead of the game at 5:34 of the second period. He has four goals and an assist over his last five contests, though it's been nine games since he earned a multi-point effort. The winger is at 22 goals (a career high), 31 points, 96 shots on net and a plus-22 rating over 44 appearances this season.
