Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Starter for Friday
Lyon is expected to start in Friday's home preseason contest against Ottawa, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com on Wednesday.
Cam Talbot is slated to serve between the pipes in Thursday's home contest versus Toronto. Lyon had a 21-18-5 record, 3.05 GAA and .904 save percentage in 44 games with Detroit in 2023-24. He'll be competing with Talbot and Ville Husso for starts in 2024-25. With Detroit's crease crowded, it's possible that no member of the trio will get much more than 40 starts over the course of the upcoming campaign.

Red Wings' Cam Talbot: Guarding cage Thursday
Talbot will defend the cage at home versus Toronto on Thursday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Talbot will get the nod Thursday while Alex Lyon starts Friday's home clash with Ottawa. Given the battle for the No. 1 job in the Motor City, it wouldn't be a shock to see Ville Husso take the preseason finale on the road versus the Leafs on Saturday. While the veteran Talbot likely has the inside track, there is no clear starter at this point, with the Wings possibly even deploying a three-headed monster in the crease.

Red Wings' Nate Danielson: Scores game winner Tuesday
Danielson potted the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 exhibition win versus the Penguins.
Danielson is a highly-touted prospect -- the 20-year-old was the No. 9 overall pick by the Red Wings in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The right-shot center will continue his upward trajectory with AHL Grand Rapids in 2024-25, but he could make his debut with the big club at some point during the campaign.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Nabs exhibition win
Husso turned aside 43 of 44 shots in Tuesday's 2-1 win preseason win over the Penguins.
Husso is currently jostling for positioning on Detroit's goaltender depth chart with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon. Husso's solid performance in Tuesday's contest certainly helps his case moving forward. The 29-year-old went 9-5-2 with an .892 save percentage and a 3.55 GAA in 19 regular-season appearances in 2023-24.

Red Wings' Alex Lyon: Starter for Friday
Lyon is expected to start at home in Friday's preseason game against Chicago, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports Thursday.
Lyon had a 21-18-5 record, 3.05 GAA and .904 save percentage in 44 regular-season contests in 2023-24. The plan is for Lyon to serve for two periods Friday before Cam Talbot steps in for the third frame. Talbot is projected to be the Red Wings' No. 1 goalie in 2024-25, but with Lyon and Ville Husso also set to make the team, it's going to be difficult for any one netminder to rack up a lot of starts in Detroit.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Gets starting nod Wednesday
Husso will be between the pipes on the road against the Blackhawks on Wednesday, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
Husso played in just one NHL game from mid-December to the end of the season last year due to a lower-body injury. While his injury concerns appear to be behind him, early signs point to the Red Wings deploying a three-goalie unit with Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon in the mix. As such, Husso probably won't get enough opportunities to make him fantasy viable in most formats.

Red Wings' Moritz Seider: Agrees to seven-year contract
Seider signed a seven-year, $59.85 million contract with the Red Wings on Thursday.
Seider was a restricted free agent, and this agreement, along with locking Lucas Raymond up to an eight-year, $64.6 million contract Monday, puts Detroit's books in order going into the 2024-25 campaign. As is the case with Raymond's deal, Seider's cap hit ($8.55 million) looks solid now for what he brings to the table and could become tremendous value as he continues to develop and the salary cap increases further. The 23-year-old defenseman had nine goals and 42 points in 82 contests last season, making it the third straight campaign in which he surpassed the 40-point mark. Seider is expected to enter the season as a member of Detroit's top four and receive steady work with the man advantage.

Raymond signed an eight-year, $64.6 million contract with the Red Wings on Monday.

The 22-year-old was the No. 4 selection in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the Red Wings. The Swedish winger is an integral part of Detroit's core going forward, and that was made clear by the substantial raise that Raymond received following the completion of his entry-level deal. The right-shot forward will likely slot in on the top line while skating with the top power-play unit. Raymond had his most productive season yet as a professional in 2023-24, banking 31 goals and 72 points in 82 regular-season contests.

Last season, he turned his tryout into a one-year deal with the Lightning and proceeded to post just four points, along with 85 hits and 93 PIM, in 33 regular-season games.
