Oilers' Roby Jarventie: Set to miss camp
Jarventie has a knee injury that is expected to keep him out of training camp, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports Thursday.
Gregor adds that Jarventie should be ready to go within two weeks. Jarventie was acquired in July in a trade that sent Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson to the Senators. The 22-year-old Jarventie had 20 points in 22 outings with AHL Belleville and one assist over seven games in the NHL. The winger was likely going to miss out on the Oilers' Opening Night roster, and if his recovery lags, he could end up on the season-opening injured reserve list.

Oilers' Jasper Weatherby: Trying out with Oilers
Weatherby signed a professional tryout agreement with the Oilers on Thursday, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Weatherby logged 66 games with AHL Milwaukee in 2023-24, scoring 12 times while adding 13 assists. The 26-year-old played in 50 regular-season games with San Jose during the 2021-22 campaign, picking up five goals and 11 points, but he has not played in the NHL since then.

Oilers' Evander Kane: Surgery confirmed
Kane (hip), as expected, is set to have surgery as confirmed by general manager Stan Bowman, per Bob Stauffer of the Oilers Radio Network on Wednesday.
Kane was previously reported to be heading under the knife before the end of September, and it seems that timeline remains intact. Until the procedure happens, it's hard to know how long Kane will be on the shelf, but fantasy managers can almost certainly anticipate he'll be out of action until at least November at a minimum. As a result, Kane should land on LTIR once the season kicks off.

Oilers' Mike Hoffman: Inks PTO
Hoffman signed a professional tryout agreement with the Oilers on Wednesday.
At Hoffman's height, he recorded over 50 points in five straight campaigns from 2015-16 through 2019-20. Over the past four seasons, though, Hoffman has failed to reach the 20-goal and 40-point marks. He served in a bottom-six role with the Sharks in 2023-24, providing 10 goals and 23 points across 66 contests. If the 34-year-old makes the Oilers' Opening Night roster, he might go on to average even less ice time in 2024-25 than the 13:44 per game he logged in San Jose.

Oilers' Evander Kane: Undergoing surgery by end of month
Kane (hip/sports hernia) will undergo surgery within the next 10 days, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports Friday
Kane's recovery timeline won't be known until after the surgery, but it's safe to assume the operation will cost him part of the regular season. If he is unavailable for the first month, the 33-year-old winger will be a candidate for long-term injured reserve. Vasily Podkolzin could get a chance at being a regular in the Oilers' lineup while Kane is out.

Oilers' Darnell Nurse: Bothered by lingering issue
Nurse is continuing to recover from an undisclosed injury suffered last season, Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk reports Wednesday.
Nurse is not expected to miss any regular-season games but is unlikely to be available early in camp. As such, look for Nurse to miss the preseason opener versus Winnipeg on Sept. 22. The absence of the veteran blueliner will likely give Travis Dermott more opportunities to show he still has something left in the tank while on his tryout. Once Nurse is cleared to play, he figures to be paired with offseason acquisition Ty Emberson on the second pairing. Nurse may also be in the mix for power-play time, though he'll likely be competing with Emberson and Mattias Ekholm for a spot on the second unit.

Oilers' Travis Dermott: Inks PTO with Edmonton
Dermott (upper body) signed a professional tryout agreement with the Oilers on Tuesday, Mark Spector of Sportsnet reports.
Dermott struggled with seven points in 50 games for Arizona last season. The 27-year-old will head to the Oilers with a chance to win a bottom-pairing job on the blue line, though he begins the preseason behind his fellow former Coyotes in Troy Stecher and Josh Brown.

Oilers' Troy Stecher: Skating with teammates
Stecher (ankle) was on the ice Monday with his Edmonton teammates for an informal skate ahead of training camp, Tom Gazzola of Edmonton Sports Talk reports.
Following offseason ankle surgery, Stecher should be ready to compete for a depth spot with the Oilers during camp. The 30-year-old defender recorded one goal, seven points, 51 shots on net and 77 blocked shots in 54 regular-season appearances between Arizona and Edmonton in 2023-24, though his ankle injury prevented him from playing in the postseason.

Oilers' Leon Draisaitl: Signs massive eight-year deal
Draisaitl signed an eight-year, $112 million contract with Edmonton on Tuesday.
Draisaitl's new contract will go into effect beginning in the 2025-26 season and contains an annual average value of $14 million, which will make him the highest-paid player in the NHL -- even above teammate Connor McDavid and Toronto's Auston Matthews. The 2023-24 campaign could be termed a down season for the 28-year-old center, considering he failed to reach the 50-goal threshold for the first time in the previous three seasons and was limited to just 39 power-play points -- down from 62 in 2022-23. Still, Draisaitl should be a near lock to reach 100 points in 2024-25, as his durability is matched by few others. He's missed just five games over the past four campaigns.

Oilers' Paul Fischer: Traded for futures
Fischer's NHL rights, along with a 2028 third-round pick, were traded to Edmonton from St. Louis for future considerations Tuesday.
While technically separate, Fischer's trade essentially closed the loop on a pair of offer sheets that saw Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg sign with St. Louis. Selected by the Blues in the fifth round of the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old Fischer spent last season playing collegiately for Notre Dame. With the Fighting Irish, the Illinois native recorded two goals and 14 hits in 34 outings.

Oilers' Vasily Podkolzin: Traded to another Canadian club
Podkolzin was traded to Edmonton from Vancouver on Sunday in exchange for a 2025 fourth-round pick.
Podklozin was limited to just 19 games at the NHL level last year in which he garnered two assists, 20 shots on goal and 71 hits while averaging 10:49 of ice time. With Vancouver, the 23-year-old Russian may have struggled for regular minutes, but he should be in contention for the Opening Night roster in Edmonton -- especially if the club decides to allow Dylan Holloway to leave for St. Louis.

Oilers' Ty Emberson: Acquired via trade
Emberson was brought in by the Oilers from the Sharks on Sunday in a swap for Cody Ceci and a 2025 third-round pick.
Emberson played in 30 NHL games as a rookie last season in which he generated one goal, nine assists and 31 shots while averaging 18:33 of ice time. The 24-year-old defenseman should be on the roster coming out of training camp, though he will need to edge out the likes of Troy Stecher (ankle). If Emberson suits up Opening Night, he could see some time with the No. 2 power-play unit, which would certainly bolster his fantasy value.

Oilers' Dylan Holloway: Signs offer sheet
Holloway agreed to terms on an offer sheet with the Blues on Tuesday worth $4.58 million over two years.
Holloway saw action in 38 regular-season contests with Edmonton last year in which he generated six goals on 56 shots, three assists and 90 hits while averaging 11:22 of ice time. In the postseason, Holloway chipped in seven points over 25 games while dishing out 86 hits. Holloway's physicality could make him a decent fantasy option in certain formats. The Oilers will have seven days to match St. Louis' offer in order to keep the Calgary native.

Oilers' Philip Broberg: Receives offer sheet
Broberg agreed to terms on an offer sheet with St. Louis on Tuesday for a two-year, $9.16 million deal.
Broberg played in just 12 regular-season contests with the Oilers last year in which he notched two assists, four hits and six shots while averaging 11:37 of ice time. In the minors, the 23-year-old blueliner was significantly more productive with 38 points in 49 outings for AHL Bakersfield. The Oilers will have seven days to match the Blues' offer in order to retain Broberg.

Oilers' Roby Jarventie: Obtained in deal
Edmonton received Jarventie and a 2025 fourth-round pick from Ottawa on Monday in exchange for Xavier Bourgault and Jake Chiasson.
Jarventie collected nine goals, 20 points and 22 PIM in 22 regular-season outings for AHL Belleville last season. He also registered one assist, five shots on goal, six blocked shots and five hits in seven NHL appearances with Ottawa during the 2023-24 campaign. Jarventie will probably begin the upcoming season in the minors but could be among the first call-ups by the Oilers if reinforcements are required.

Oilers' Raphael Lavoie: Grabs two-way deal
Lavoie inked a one-year, two-way contract with Edmonton on Monday.
Lavoie played in seven NHL regular-season games this past year in which he registered zero points, four shots on goal and 13 hits while averaging 7:17 of ice time. Even with a new deal in hand, the 23-year-old center is unlikely to start the season on the NHL roster, instead playing the bulk of his games with AHL Bakersfield in the minors.

Oilers' Matthew Savoie: Changes teams
Savoie was acquired by the Oilers from the Sabres on Friday in exchange for Ryan McLeod and Tyler Tullio, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton.
Savoie had 19 goals and 47 points across 23 regular-season contests with WHL Moose Jaw in 2023-24 and then provided another 10 goals and 24 points across 19 playoff outings. He also got his first taste of NHL action Nov. 10 with Buffalo, though he logged just 3:55 of ice time in that appearance and didn't record a shot or point. The 20-year-old was selected by the Sabres with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. While he has plenty of potential, Savoie shouldn't be counted on to make an impact with Edmonton in 2024-25.

Oilers' Adam Henrique: Re-ups with Edmonton
Henrique signed a two-year, $3 million AAV deal with the Oilers on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Henrique scored 24 goals and 51 points in 82 total regular-season games with the Ducks and Oilers last season. He also added seven points in 17 playoff contests. The veteran forward figures to slot in as Edmonton's third-line center behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Henrique scored 65 goals in 202 games over the last three years.

Oilers' Evander Kane: Dealing with hip injury
Kane has been dealing with a hip issue but there has not yet been a decision on whether or not he'll need surgery, Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton reports.
Kane missed the final five games of the Stanley Cup Finals but was reportedly working through an abdomen injury at the time. The veteran winger scored eight points in 20 postseason contests after scoring 24 goals and 44 points during the regular season. The team will likely have a better idea on his outlook over the coming weeks.
