Predators' Justus Annunen: Loses in team debut
Annunen stopped 27 of 29 shots in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Canadiens. The third goal was an empty-netter with 46 seconds left in the third period.
Annunen made his first appearance for his new club since being traded from the Avalanche on Nov. 30, but the 24-year-old couldn't secure the win. Annunen is expected to hold the same role he had with Colorado, and he'll operate as Juuse Saros' backup between the pipes.

O'Reilly's absence figures to be a big one for Nashville, a team that can ill afford missing one of its top players. The 33-year-old has has 14 points through 26 outings this season. O'Reilly's absence likely leaves room for both Mark Jankowski and Michael McCarron to play in the near term.

Annunen is expected to start on the road against Montreal on Thursday, per Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site.
Annunen had a 6-4-0 record, 3.22 GAA and .872 save percentage in 11 appearances with Colorado this season before he was traded to Nashville on Saturday. This will be his first start with his new squad. Montreal is in a three-way tie for 22nd in goals per game with 2.80.

McCarron (upper body) was removed from injured reserve ahead of Thursday's matchup with Montreal, per the NHL media site.
McCarron looks poised to step into the lineup for the first time since Nov. 20 versus the Kraken, a stretch of six games on the shelf due to his upper-body issue. The 29-year-old forward has notched two goals, two assists and 35 hits while averaging 12:24 of ice time in 18 contests. Mark Jankowski could find himself relegated to the press box since McCarron is now healthy.

The veteran forward swept home a rebound late in the third period to bring Nashville within a goal, but the visitors couldn't find an equalizer. Jankowski's bottom-six role doesn't afford him many offensive opportunities, but he's managed to produce three points over six appearances since returning to the lineup following a six-game stint in the press box as a healthy scratch.

The Predators were clinging to a 1-0 lead heading into the third period, but the Leafs struck three times in the first 5:06 of the frame, including two tallies by Auston Matthews that Saros had little chance on. The netminder has dropped his last five decisions, going 0-2-3 during the skid with a 3.40 GAA and .883 save percentage and giving up at least three goals each time out.

Saros has a 6-10-5 record, 2.62 GAA and .911 save percentage in 21 outings in 2024-25. He's gone 0-1-3 across his past four appearances while stopping 96 of 109 shots (.881 save percentage). The Maple Leafs are 15-7-2 and rank 15th in goals per game with 3.08.

McCarron (upper body) is considered day-to-day and could be an option during the Preds' three-game road trip, Brooks Bratten of the Predators' official site reports Tuesday.
McCarron has already been out of action since Nov. 20 due to his upper-body issue, so he can be removed from injured reserve as soon as medically cleared. Considering the bottom-six forward has managed just four points in 18 games, his eventual return is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy players, though he does offer some physicality in banger formats.

Stamkos has three goals and two assists over his last seven contests, with four of those five points coming on the power play. The man advantage hasn't been a problem for the Predators, but the team's 5-on-5 play has left a lot to be desired from top to bottom. Stamkos is at 13 points (nine on the power play), 63 shots on net, 23 hits and a minus-14 rating over his first 25 appearances with Nashville.

Svechkov scored a goal on two shots and blocked two shots in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Wild.
The goal was Svechkov's first point at the NHL level. The 21-year-old has played in five straight games, and he's getting an extended look due to the Predators' struggles out of the gate this year. Svechkov could see a larger role if the team continues to struggle, and it's unlikely he'll be heading back to AHL Milwaukee unless he enters a deep slump. In addition to his goal, he has six shots on net, four hits, three blocked shots and a plus-2 rating while logging bottom-six minutes.

Saros has lost four straight starts, including three consecutive 3-2 defeats in overtime. The 29-year-old hasn't posted a save percentage above .900 during his losing skid. He has been trending in the wrong direction, though playing for one of the weakest teams in the Western Conference doesn't help his case.
