Islanders' Dennis Cholowski: Slumping, but still in lineup
Cholowski has gone six games without a point after Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Senators.
Alexander Romanov's upper-body injury has opened the door for Cholowski to play again after a six-game stint as a healthy scratch. Prior to that stretch, he had seen a healthy share of ice time, but he's topped 15 minutes just once in his last four outings while filling a spot on the third pairing. Cholowski has eight points, 23 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 27 appearances. He could lose his place in the lineup and possibly also his roster spot once the Islanders' blue line is fully healthy, but that won't happen until Mike Reilly (chest) is able to return, which isn't expected to happen until after the 4 Nations Face-Off.

Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Heads to minors
Gatcomb was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Gatcomb has nine goals and 17 points in 34 appearances with Bridgeport in 2024-25. He made his NHL debut Tuesday against Ottawa, recording four hits and one block in 7:27 of ice time.

Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Out-dueled in Tuesday's loss
Hogberg turned aside 25 of 26 shots in Tuesday's 2-0 loss to the Senators, with Ottawa's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The 30-year-old netminder made his NHL debut with Ottawa in 2018-19 and did his best to deliver a revenge game against his former organization, but Adam Gaudette tipped a point shot past Hogberg in the second period, and it was all the offense Leevi Merilainen would need in the other crease. Hogberg has started two straight games while Ilya Sorokin dealt with an illness and played well, allowing only two goals on 48 shots, but Sorokin figures to reclaim the No. 1 job as soon as he's deemed fit. Semyon Varlamov (lower body) has no timeline for his return from LTIR however, and Hogberg's recent performances might earn him more consistent work as Sorokin's backup.

Islanders' Jean-Gabriel Pageau: Out of action Tuesday
Pageau (illness) won't play Tuesday versus the Senators, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Pageau will miss at least one game while under the weather. Marc Gatcomb was called up from AHL Bridgeport under emergency conditions Tuesday and will make his NHL debut.

Islanders' Marc Gatcomb: Called up Tuesday
Gatcomb was recalled under emergency conditions ahead of Tuesday's matchup with Ottawa.
Gatcomb's emergency recall would seem to suggest there is a potential illness or injury impacting one of New York's forwards -- possibly a center given Gatcomb's natural position. Unfortunately for fantasy players, the notoriously tight-lipped Isles are unlikely to offer more details prior to puck drop. If a forward has to miss out, Gatcomb would likely be pressed into the lineup to make his NHL debut Tuesday.

Islanders' Isaiah George: Set to play Tuesday
George (upper body) is slated to return versus the Senators on Tuesday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
George will be back in the lineup following a three-game stint on the shelf due to his upper-body injury. Prior to getting hurt, the youngster was stuck in a four-game pointless streak. The offense hasn't exactly been flowing from the Ontario native this season, as he has managed just five points in 25 outings. As such, fantasy players probably don't need him on their radar, especially in re-draft leagues.

Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Facing former team Tuesday
Hogberg will be between the home pipes Tuesday versus Ottawa, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Hogberg was solid in his last start, stopping 21 of 22 shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah. The 30-year-old will face the team he was drafted by in 2013 -- Hogberg spent the first three years of his NHL career with the Sens. Ottawa is tied for 20th in the NHL with 2.90 goals per game.

Islanders' Alexander Romanov: Doubtful for Tuesday
Romanov (upper body) didn't practice Monday and is unlikely to play in Tuesday's matchup versus Ottawa, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Romanov is day-to-day and will presumably miss his second straight game. The Islanders may get Isaiah George (upper body) back in the lineup versus the Senators after he was a full participant in Monday's practice. Romanov has nine assists, 40 shots on goal, 65 blocked shots and 73 hits across 30 appearances this season.

Islanders' Isaiah George: Status uncertain for Tuesday
George (upper body) returned to practice Monday, but head coach Patrick Roy doesn't know whether the defenseman will be available for Tuesday's game against the Senators, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
George has missed the last three games due to his upper-body injury, but it was encouraging to see him back in practice Monday. Roy said that George looked good during Monday's practice session, but the team's medical staff apparently wants to see how he feels afterward before determining his status for Tuesday's matchup. Grant Hutton was sent down Monday, so it wouldn't be surprising to see either George or Alexander Romanov (upper body), who remains day-to-day, back in action against Ottawa.

Islanders' Ilya Sorokin: Returns to practice
Sorokin (illness) returned to practice Monday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Sorokin was unavailable for Saturday's game against Utah due to his illness, but he appears to have moved past the ailment. Whether he'll serve as the starting goaltender for Tuesday's home game against Ottawa remains to be seen, but it appears as though he'll at least be available in a backup capacity since Jakub Skarek was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday.

Islanders' Grant Hutton: Sent back to AHL
Hutton was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, Stefen Rosner of NHL.com reports.
Hutton spent nearly a week with the Islanders, but he made just one appearance with the NHL club across that span. On the season, he's made 13 NHL appearances, logging two assists, 13 hits, 12 blocked shots and four PIM while averaging 13:28 of ice time. His demotion could signal that Alexander Romanov (upper body) or Isaiah George (upper body) will be available for Tuesday's home game against Ottawa.

Islanders' Jakub Skarek: Shipped back to minors
Skarek was returned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday, per Stefen Rosner of NHL.com.
Skarek suited up against Utah on Saturday, serving as the No. 2 option behind Marcus Hogberg while Ilya Sorokin (illness) was unavailable. The decision to return Skarek to the minors should be an indication that Sorokin will at least be healthy enough to fill the backup role when the Islanders face off with the Senators on Tuesday.

Islanders' Matt Martin: Playing time opens up again
Martin has played in each of the last two games after suiting up in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Hudson Fasching (upper body) is expected to miss a couple of weeks, opening the door for Martin to reclaim a spot on the fourth line. He had been scratched for eight straight games from Dec. 17 to Jan. 5. Martin has just one helper with 62 hits and a minus-2 rating over 22 appearances, so he's unlikely to be an option to most fantasy managers.

Islanders' Ryan Pulock: Gathers helper in win
Pulock notched an assist, three shots on goal, three hits and two blocked shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Pulock helped out on Mathew Barzal's game-winning tally with 1:25 left in the third period. With five points over his last six outings, Pulock has been rolling in a top-four role. He also has 18 blocked shots in that span as he continues to play a strong defensive game. The 30-year-old blueliner is up to 16 points, 60 shots on net, 54 hits, 94 blocked shots and a plus-3 rating through 42 contests overall.

Islanders' Anders Lee: Dishes pair of helpers Saturday
Lee notched two assists, eight shots on goal, two PIM and a plus-2 rating in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Lee's eight shots were a team high. While he wasn't able to cash in on any of his own attempts, he set up third-period goals by linemates Brock Nelson and Mathew Barzal to lift the Islanders to the win. Lee now has six goals and four assists over his last nine outings. For the season, the 34-year-old winger is at 35 points (19 goals, 16 helpers), 130 shots, 60 hits, 16 PIM and a plus-11 rating across 42 appearances.

Islanders' Brock Nelson: Goals in consecutive games
Nelson scored a goal on four shots, added two hits and went plus-2 in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Nelson has scored twice and added an assist over the last two games after being limited to four helpers over the prior 17 contests. His tally Saturday tied the game at 1-1 early in the third period. Nelson is up to 12 goals, 24 points, 105 shots on net and a plus-1 rating over 42 appearances this season. He's got budding chemistry on a line with Mathew Barzal and Anders Lee, which could carry the Islanders' offense for a while.

Islanders' Mathew Barzal: First multi-point effort of season
Barzal scored a goal on two shots, added an assist and went plus-2 in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Barzal extended his point streak to five games when he helped out on Brock Nelson's game-tying goal in the third period. With 1:25 left in regulation, Barzal scored to put the Islanders ahead, and that would stand as his first game-winner of the season. He's now at four goals, 13 points, 55 shots on net and a plus-6 rating through 21 appearances. The 27-year-old has looked good lately and should be a team leader on offense throughout the second half.

Islanders' Marcus Hogberg: Steady in win over Utah
Hogberg allowed one goal on 22 shots in Saturday's 2-1 win over Utah.
Hogberg can't really be faulted for the goal against, as it was a tipped-in shot off the stick of Nick Schmaltz. The 30-year-old Hogberg has allowed four goals on 80 shots over four appearances (two starts) at the NHL level this year. He started Saturday because Ilya Sorokin (illness) was unavailable, and Hogberg would likely continue to see playing time should Sorokin not be healthy in time for Tuesday's home game versus the Senators.
