  • Rangers' Chad Ruhwedel: Practicing in non-contact sweater

Ruhwedel (undisclosed) practiced in a red non-contact sweater Thursday, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

Ruhwedel went into the boards hard during Tuesday's preseason win over the Devils, and while it's not yet clear what injury he's dealing with, he was limited during Thursday's practice session. Whether his ailment will hinder his availability for Friday's preseason finale against the Islanders remains to be seen.

  • Rangers' Artemi Panarin: Missing from practice Thursday

Panarin (lower body) was not on the ice Thursday and is considered day-to-day, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.

Panarin still has time to get back to 100 percent before the season opener against the Penguins on Oct. 9. The veteran winger is coming off a career year in which he set personal bests in goals (49), points (120) and power-play points (44). While this was the first time Panarin reached the 40-goal threshold, he should be capable of doing so again in 2024-25.

  • Rangers' Benoit-Olivier Groulx: Hits waivers Wednesday

Groulx was waived by the Rangers on Wednesday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Groulx signed a one-year, two-way deal with the Rangers in early July, but he'll likely have to settle for a role in the AHL to begin the regular season. The 24-year-old made 45 regular-season appearances with the Ducks last year and logged two assists, 32 shots and 101 hits while averaging 12:11 of ice time.

  • Rangers' Matt Rempe: Lays lumber in preseason win

Rempe recorded a game-hit seven hits while adding two PIM, a blocked shot and a minus-1 rating in Tuesday's 5-4 preseason win over the Devils.

The 22-year-old became an instant fan favorite last season as a rookie due to his physical play, racking up 71 PIM and 50 hits in only 17 games, and Rempe doesn't look like he intends to go easy on the opposition in 2024-25. His fourth-line role and lack of offensive upside keep him off the fantasy radar in most formats, but in leagues where hits and PIM have value, Rempe can be very useful.

  • Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: Beaten twice in preseason action

Shesterkin stopped 16 of 18 shots over two periods in Tuesday's 5-4 preseason win over the Devils.

Both goals against Shesterkin came on juicy rebounds, giving him something to work on ahead of the Rangers' regular-season opener in Pittsburgh on Oct. 9. The 28-year-old netminder has won at least 36 games in three straight seasons, but he might need better defensive play in front of him to reverse the downward trend in his ratios -- he's gone from an elite 2.07 GAA and .935 save percentage in 2021-22 to merely good marks of 2.58 and .912 last season.

  • Rangers' Artemi Panarin: Exits contest

Panarin (lower body) won't return to Tuesday's game versus the Devils.

Panarin has been battling a lower-body injury throughout camp, and it appears he has aggravated it. He should be considered doubtful to play in the preseason finale Friday against the Islanders.

  • Rangers' Artemi Panarin: Good to go Tuesday

Panarin (lower body) will play in Tuesday's exhibition contest against New Jersey.

Panarin had been nursing a minor injury since leaving a preseason game against the Islanders on Sept. 24. He accumulated 49 goals and 120 points in 82 outings during the 2023-24 regular season. Panarin will occupy a top-six role and see action on the first power-play unit in the 2024-25 campaign.

  • Rangers' Casey Fitzgerald: Lands on waivers

Fitzgerald was put on waivers Tuesday, according to PuckPedia.

Fitzgerald compiled four goals and 21 points in 69 contests for AHL Hartford during the 2023-24 regular season. The 27-year-old blueliner will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign at the minor-league level.

  • Rangers' Brandon Scanlin: Goes on waivers

Scanlin was shifted to waivers Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Scanlin provided eight goals and eight assists in 64 regular-season contests for AHL Hartford in 2023-24. He also made his NHL debut against Philadelphia on March 26, earning one hit in 10:46 of ice time. The 25-year-old defender will probably spend most of the 2024-25 campaign in the minors.

  • Rangers' Anton Blidh: Hits waivers

Blidh was put on waivers Tuesday, according to PuckPedia.

Blidh had seven goals, 17 points and 77 PIM over 64 games with AHL Hartford during the 2023-24 regular season. He will probably spend most, if not all, of the 2024-25 campaign at the minor-league level.

  • Rangers' Louis Domingue: Waived Tuesday

Domingue was designated for waivers by the Rangers on Tuesday, per PuckPedia.

Domingue was always going to be the third option in New York behind Igor Shesterkin and Jonathan Quick, so his potential demotion shouldn't come as a surprise. There could be some teams interested in submitting a claim for the veteran Domingue, especially clubs dealing with goaltending injuries like Anaheim, Pittsburgh and Chicago. If he clears, Domingue should report to AHL Hartford.

  • Rangers' Matthew Robertson: Practices Tuesday

Robertson (lower body) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

Robertson could be an option for at least one of the Rangers' final two preseason contests. The team hosts New Jersey on Tuesday before visiting the Islanders on Friday. Robertson will probably return to AHL Hartford soon. He had four goals and 21 points across 68 regular-season outings with the Rangers' top minor-league affiliate in 2023-24.

  • Rangers' Igor Shesterkin: Between pipes against Devils

Shesterkin will tend the twine for Tuesday's home clash with New Jersey, Jim Cerny of NHL.com reports.

Shesterkin has reached the 35-win mark in three straight seasons and certainly seems capable of reaching that threshold again in 2024-25. The Rangers' decision to bring back Jonathan Quick for another year should ease the workload for Shesterkin, though he figures to make 55-60 appearances in goal for the club this year. As such, don't be surprised to see Shesterkin as one of the first goalies off the board in re-draft formats.

  • Rangers' Jonathan Quick: Tending twine Monday

Quick will defend the road net in Monday's preseason contest versus New Jersey, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

In two periods of work, Quick stopped 10 of 12 shots in Thursday's 5-2 exhibition win over Boston. The veteran netminder will play the whole game Monday. Quick will enter the 2024-25 campaign as Igor Shesterkin's backup again.

  • Rangers' Jimmy Vesey: Set to miss a few weeks

Vesey (lower body) will be out of action for a few weeks, according to Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today on Monday.

Vesey is projected to miss the start of the 2024-25 season after being injured in Sunday's practice. He produced 13 goals and 26 points in 80 regular-season games last year. With Vesey unavailable, Adam Edstrom or Brennan Othmann could land a spot on the Rangers' Opening Night roster.

  • Rangers' Jimmy Vesey: Dealing with minor injury

Vesey is being evaluated for a lower-body injury, Vince Z. Mercogliano of USA Today reports.

Vesey, who spent the offseason rehabbing a separated shoulder suffered in the Eastern Conference Finals, is still expected to open the year in a bottom-six role for the Rangers. Per coach Peter Laviolette, Vesey's new injury "seemed somewhat harmless". The winger recorded 13 goals and 26 points in 80 regular-season games in 2023-24.

  • Rangers' Alex Belzile: On waivers

Belzile was waived Friday, per PuckPedia.

Belzile had 19 goals, 50 points and 70 PIM in 61 regular-season contests with AHL Hartford in 2023-24. The 33-year-old also has six goals and 15 points across 44 career NHL games.

  • Rangers' Ben Harpur: Put on waivers

Harpur was placed on waivers Friday, according to PuckPedia.

Harpur had a goal and six points in 42 regular-season games with the Rangers in 2022-23, but he didn't play at all in the NHL last season. That's partially due to undergoing pectoral surgery in November, which ended his year after recording a goal and three points across seven contests with AHL Hartford. Harpur might get an opportunity to play with the Rangers this campaign, but it seems he will first have to spend more time in the minors.

  • Rangers' Jake Leschyshyn: Going through waivers

Leschyshyn was waived by the Rangers on Friday, according to PuckPedia.

Leschyshyn had eight goals and 19 points in 47 regular-season games with AHL Hartford in 2023-24. The 25-year-old has two goals and six points across 77 career NHL contests, but he only made one regular-season appearance with the Rangers last campaign.

  • Rangers' Talyn Boyko: Headed to minors

Boyko was assigned to AHL Hartford on Friday.

Boyko is just getting past an upper-body injury, and he'll look to earn a role with the Wolf Pack now that he's healthy. The 21-year-old was a fourth-round selection by the Rangers in the 2021 NHL Draft.
