Penguins' Cody Glass: Undergoing evaluation
Glass is being checked for an undisclosed injury, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports Wednesday.
Glass is currently mired in a seven-game pointless streak in addition to his 16-game goal drought dating back to Dec. 10 versus Colorado. If the winger were to miss out on Friday's matchup with Buffalo, Philip Tomasino figures to be elevated to a second-line role, while Jesse Puljujarvi will likely be called up from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if needed.

Penguins' Joel Blomqvist: Up from minors
The Penguins will recall Blomqvist from AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday, Matt Vensel of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Blomqvist has a 3-5-0 record, 3.61 GAA and .904 save percentage in eight appearances in 2024-25. He also has a 2.93 GAA and a .912 save percentage across 12 outings with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Blomqvist will presumably serve as Pittsburgh's No. 2 goaltender behind Alex Nedeljkovic going forward. Tristan Jarry was waived Wednesday and is expected to be sent to the minors if he goes unclaimed.

Penguins' Kris Letang: First point since return
Letang notched an assist, two shots on goal and two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
The helper was Letang's first point in six games since he returned from a lower-body injury. The 37-year-old blueliner has seen plenty of ice time in a top-four role, but he's had some trouble getting involved on offense this season. He's at 17 points, 92 shots on net, 71 hits, 45 blocked shots and a minus-15 rating over 40 appearances. Letang hasn't finished below a 0.5 points-per-game pace since 2009-2010, but that could change in 2024-25 if he doesn't heat up.

Penguins' Evgeni Malkin: Draws assist in return
Malkin notched an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Malkin missed four games due to an upper-body injury. He resumed his usual second-line role and saw 17:37 of ice time in his return, and he was able to help out on a Bryan Rust tally in the second period. Malkin has 33 points, 72 shots on net, 30 blocked shots, 18 PIM and a minus-18 rating through 42 appearances this season. He's tracking toward a 60-point campaign if he can remain healthy and consistent the rest of the way.

Penguins' Philip Tomasino: Puts away goal
Tomasino scored a goal on two shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken.
Tomasino was able to tickle the twine in his second game back after missing four contests due to a lower-body injury. The 23-year-old forward has been on the third line and second power-play unit since his return. He's at nine points, 52 shots on net, 25 hits and a minus-3 rating over 29 appearances between the Penguins and the Predators this season, though his offense has been much better with Pittsburgh.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Set to be waived by Pittsburgh
Jarry will be waived by the Penguins on Wednesday.
Jarry has struggled in recent weeks, culminating in Wednesday's loss to the Kraken in which he allowed a pair of third-period goals within a span of 50 seconds to turn a 2-1 lead into a 3-2 deficit. The 29-year-old had still served as Pittsburgh's primary netminder for most of the year despite one of the worst seasons of his career, as he posted an 8-8-4 record, 3.31 GAA and .884 save percentage over 22 appearances to begin the 2024-25 campaign. Jarry will likely have a chance to get back into form at AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton if he clears waivers, while Alex Nedeljkovic should take over as Pittsburgh's No. 1 goaltender for now.

Penguins' Tristan Jarry: Lead slips away late Tuesday
Jarry stopped 14 of 17 shots in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Kraken, with Seattle's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
The Penguins controlled the first two periods and out-shot the visitors 28-10, but they only had a 2-1 lead to show for it. That gave Jarry no margin for error in the third when his defense fell asleep, leading to two goals 50 seconds apart in the final frame by Jamie Oleksiak and Eeli Tolvanen. Jarry hasn't picked up a win since Dec. 23, going 0-3-2 over his last six outings with a 2.85 GAA and .881 save percentage as he remains in a timeshare with Alex Nedeljkovic.

Penguins' Jesse Puljujarvi: Headed back to minors
Puljujarvi was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday.
Puljujarvi's demotion comes as Evgeni Malkin (upper body) was activated off injured reserve in a corresponding move. After Puljujarvi passed through waivers in late December, he was always going to be the easiest player to move between levels when a transaction was needed. During this latest NHL stint, the 26-year-old Swede notched one assist, four shots and 13 hits in four games while averaging 11:28 of ice time.

After missing the last four games, Malkin will return to the second line and second power-play unit versus Seattle on Tuesday. Malkin (upper body) will be a game-time decision versus Seattle on Tuesday, according to Penguins play-by-play announcer Josh Getzoff.
Malkin participated fully in Tuesday's morning skate while working on the second line and second power-play unit. He has amassed eight goals, 32 points, 71 shots on net, 29 blocked shots and 20 hits across 41 appearances this season. With Michael Bunting (undisclosed) ready to return and Malkin trending toward playing after missing four games, Jesse Puljujarvi and Matt Nieto could be healthy scratches versus the Kraken.

Bunting sat out Sunday's 5-2 loss to Tampa Bay after being involved in a car accident outside PPG Paints Arena. He has registered 13 goals, 25 points, 84 shots on net, 48 hits and 42 PIM through 43 appearances this season. Pettersson notched an assist, four hits and three blocked shots in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.
Pettersson has three helpers and a plus-3 rating over his last three contests. The 28-year-old doesn't look to have lost a step since returning from a six-game absence due to a lower-body injury. The blueliner continues to provide modest offense and strong physicality in a top-four role. He has 16 points, 37 shots on net, 47 hits, 70 blocked shots, 23 PIM and a minus-1 rating over 39 appearances.

Rust has earned a goal and five assists over six outings in January. The 32-year-old winger set up a Rickard Rakell tally in the first period of Sunday's defeat. Rust is up to 16 goals, 17 helpers, 102 shots on net, 35 hits, 34 blocked shots and a minus-20 rating over 38 appearances. The plus-minus rating is rough, but Rust does enough of everything else to stay useful in fantasy while seeing top-six minutes.

Penguins' Sidney Crosby: Manages assist in loss
Crosby registered a power-play assist, six shots on goal, two blocked shots and a minus-2 rating in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.
Crosby helped out on a Kevin Hayes goal in the third period. With two goals and five assists over six outings in January, Crosby continues to make an impact on offense even with the Penguins' depth mostly faltering this month. He's now at 12 goals, 36 helpers, 17 power-play points, 134 shots, 41 hits, 22 blocked shots and a minus-14 rating through 45 appearances this season. Crosby has a reasonable chance to reach the 90-point mark for the third consecutive campaign, all at age 35 or older.

Penguins' Kevin Hayes: Tallies on power play in loss
Hayes scored a power-play goal on four shots and went minus-3 in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Lightning.
Hayes tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period, but the Penguins couldn't nurse the level score to overtime, as the Lightning scored three times in the last 3:03 for the win. This was Hayes' third goal in his last six games, and he's added 17 shots in that span. For the season, the 32-year-old forward has contributed 10 points (five on the power play), 39 shots on net and a minus-14 rating over 28 appearances, mainly in a bottom-six role.
