Capitals' Cole Hutson: Joining Caps from BU
Hutson has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals, the team announced Sunday.
Hutson's season with Boston University came to an end Saturday with the team's loss in the Hockey East tournament. The 19-year-old finished his sophomore season with 10 goals and 22 assists in 35 games. His contract begins this season, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see him debut when the Capitals next are in action, Wednesday against the Senators.

Capitals' David Kampf: Awaiting birth of second child
Kampf has returned home to Vancouver to be with his wife while they await the birth of their second child, Tarik El-Bashir of Monumental Sports Network reports Sunday.
Kampf hasn't suited up with the Capitals since being acquired due to issues with getting his work visa, and now he has another reason to miss some time with him and his wife expecting their second child soon. The 31-year-old has two goals and four assists in 38 games on the season. The Capitals have some time off and don't play again until Wednesday against the Senators.

Capitals' Dylan McIlrath: Limited chances to play
McIlrath was scratched for the fifth game in a row in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins.
McIlrath has played just once since the Olympic break. The Capitals' trade of John Carlson to Anaheim didn't open the door for McIlrath, especially after a separate deal with San Jose brought in Timothy Liljegren. For now, McIlrath, Liljegren and Declan Chisholm continue to compete for one spot in the lineup, and that battle could get tougher if Cole Hutson signs his entry-level deal coming out of Boston University.

Capitals' Matt Roy: Gets goal in shootout loss
Roy scored a goal, added two hits and blocked two shots in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins.
Roy ended a 45-game goal drought and also earned his first point since Feb. 2 versus the Islanders. The 31-year-old defenseman is playing in a top-four role, but he is mostly in that spot for his shutdown skills. He has two goals, 16 points, 83 shots on net, 99 hits, 124 blocked shots and a plus-12 rating over 65 outings this season.

Capitals' Rasmus Sandin: One of each in shootout loss
Sandin scored a goal on four shots, added an assist, blocked four shots and went plus-2 in Saturday's 3-2 shootout loss to the Bruins.
Sandin snapped a four-game point drought with the effort. The 26-year-old has been seeing steady top-four minutes in the absence of John Carlson (lower body), who was traded to the Ducks prior to the March 6 deadline. That larger role hasn't translated to a boost in offense for Sandin, but he's in a good spot. He has four goals, 20 helpers, 79 shots on net, 103 blocked shots, 74 hits and a plus-9 rating over 61 appearances this season.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Tough shootout loss Saturday
Thompson turned aside 32 shots in regulation and overtime and eight of nine shootout attempts in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Bruins.
Washington took leads in the second and third periods, only for Charlie McAvoy to put the puck past Thompson each time to tie it up. The 29-year-old netminder then got locked in an epic shootout battle with Jeremy Swayman that was decided when Fraser Minten beat Thompson on the backhand in the ninth round. Thompson has allowed no more than three goals in eight straight outings since the beginning of February, going 4-3-1 over that stretch with a .915 save percentage.

Capitals' David Kampf: Still not eligible to play
Kampf (not injury related) will remain out of the lineup Saturday versus Boston, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News.
Kampf has still not received his work visa and will miss his fifth straight game since he was dealt from Vancouver on March 6. The grinder had two goals and four assists in 38 games with the Canucks prior to his trade.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: In goal Saturday
Thompson will patrol the home crease against Boston on Saturday, per Sammi Silber of The Hockey News.
Thompson has one win in his last four outings (1-3-0) while allowing 11 goals on 99 shots. However, he has gone 22-19-4 this campaign with two shutouts, a 2.44 GAA and a .911 save percentage through 45 appearances. Boston sits 11th in the league with 3.29 goals per game this season.

Capitals' Ryan Leonard: Stays hot with goal
Leonard scored a goal and went plus-2 in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Sabres.
Leonard's point streak is at five games (four goals, one assist), and he's scored in three straight contests. The 21-year-old is still playing on the third line and second power-play unit, but his confidence is rising late in the season. That's encouraging to see after his struggles in late January and February. Leonard has 14 goals, 35 points, 117 shots on net, 89 hits, 34 PIM and a plus-1 rating over 60 appearances this season.

Capitals' Jakob Chychrun: Pots late winner Thursday
Chychrun scored the game-winning goal in Thursday's 2-1 victory over Buffalo.
With 93 seconds left in regulation, Chychrun ripped a one-timer past Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen from the faceoff dot on a feed from Aliaksei Protas. The game-winner was Chychrun's seventh of the season, a new career high. The 27-year-old is the unquestioned No. 1 blueliner for the Capitals now that John Carlson's (lower body) in Anaheim, and over his last nine games Chychrun has collected four goals and eight points.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Sharp in Thursday's win
Lindgren turned aside 29 shots in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Sabres.
Washington was outshot 30-22, but Lindgren was able to steal a road win by slamming the door shut after allowing a Sam Carrick goal early in the first period. It was the first time Lindgren had given up fewer than three goals in an outing since Dec. 3, and on the season the veteran netminder is 9-7-3 with a 3.29 GAA and .886 save percentage.

Capitals' Charlie Lindgren: Guarding goal Thursday
Lindgren will protect the road goal versus the Sabres on Thursday, Sammi Silber of The Hockey News reports.
Lindgren is set for the second half of the back-to-back after Logan Thompson took the loss Wednesday versus the Flyers. Lindgren will be making just his second start since the Olympic break. He allowed four goals on 23 shots versus the Canadiens on Feb. 28, and a tough matchup against the Sabres doesn't bode well for Lindgren turning things around.

Capitals' David Kampf: Won't play Thursday
Kampf (not injury related) won't draw into the lineup Thursday versus Buffalo.
Kampf has been waiting for his work visa after Washington acquired him from Vancouver on Friday. He has two goals and six points in 38 outings in 2025-26. Kampf will probably serve on the bottom six once he's available.

Capitals' Ryan Leonard: Nets power-play goal
Leonard scored a power-play goal on two shots, added four hits and went minus-2 in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers.
Leonard has three goals and an assist during his four-game point streak to start March. The 21-year-old winger is looking a bit more comfortable this month after going 14 games in which he had just a single assist between Jan. 17 and Feb. 28. The rookie has 13 goals, 21 assists, 11 power-play points, 116 shots on net, 88 hits and a minus-1 rating through 59 appearances.

Capitals' Logan Thompson: Loses to Flyers
Thompson stopped 18 of 21 shots in Wednesday's 4-1 loss to the Flyers. The fourth goal was an empty-netter.
Thompson has lost three of his last four outings, but he's gone seven games without allowing more than three goals. The 29-year-old's rough patch isn't helping the Capitals' fading playoff hopes. He's down to 22-19-4 with a 2.44 GAA and a .911 save percentage across 45 contests, one shy of his career high from 2023-24. The workload may be catching up to Thompson, but he's still providing steady ratios even if the wins don't follow. The Capitals will likely turn to Charlie Lindgren for Thursday's tough matchup in Buffalo.
